Urban rails

I am going to start hitting some urban rails. I was wondering if anyone has some tips for me. I was also wondering if you had to wax the rails before you hit them.

start with easier features for sure. dont build to big of a jump on to the rail. keep it small so you dont get way over the rail when jumping on, and you shouldnt have to wax the rail

And for urban just run the base of your ski over the rail and you should hopefully be fine.

urben is fun when you have other people to help you work, but yeah, its a lot of work and not a lot of ski time. especially when you routinely get kicked out after making the jump and hitting it once. practice hitting urban, and if you want it in a vid, find somewhere where there is no one around, or stomp it first try in the middle of a city!

Thanks guys that will help a lot. Should the jump be all the way to the top of the rail or half Way or dose it just drpend on the rail.

If it needs to be all the way, you shouldn't be doing urban. Halfway at the most.

It really depends on how much speed you've got and how much experience - in this case its your first urban so the jump size is up to you and whatever you feel most comfortable with.

People will bitch and say its not urban if its not less than half the height of the rail- being that its your first time hitting urban I'd honestly suggest a lip that is half the height of the rail, or slightly higher. Urban is a whole different game and it takes some time to get used to it. Make sure you've got ample speed, make sure the first rail you hit isn't too long and is either flat or down. Build your jump flatter- don't think you need a lot of kick to get onto the rail because it'll more than likely scare the piss out of you if you're way above the rail.

You will not need wax, but inspect whatever rail you've chosen. Is it fairly short? Does the rail itself have any burrs in it? Make sure the rail isn't aluminum, look at how much spacing you've got (does the rail end with 5 feet before a wall? you probably wouldn't want to hit that for your first urban). Lastly check the consequences - does the rail drop off to flat on one side, or is it sloped like the staircase?

here is my tip. grow some hair on your balls, buy a touring set up, stop staying up untill 3am looking at gay porn so you can wake up and dawn patrol, convince some buddies to do the same and hike your little 12 year old but off to ride some back country. sounds sweet huh?

It all comes down to how gnarly you wanna be and if you have the nuts to go big. Truth is, you're going to fall and it's going to hurt a lot more than on park, but if you get a sweet shot it makes it twice as worth it. Build your ramp quick and try to pick a spot that you won't get caught to quickly. Super rewarding experience if you pull it off!
