Hi,

  So I have been skiing my whole life but last year I started to take it seriously and before that I just skied like 3 times a year on the easy runs and what not. I am 15 and I ski at Snowbird last year I skied like 38 days or something and I have skied probably 15 so far this year. My skiing in general is good enough for now but I would like to know how long does it take to be able to at least 180 and 360 with some style and not so sketched out even if there isn't a grab thrown in. There isn't really a park at Snowbird so I can't just hit non-stop park jumps everyday it is mostly natural or just man made kickers. I actually did my first 180 late last year and this year I have just been doing 180's here and there but I know even those are sketched out and I don't land them everytime but when I do I usually ride them out but Do I progress faster by throwing bigger stuff and tricks that I am not comfortable with and crashing more or just doing mostly stuff I can do easily.

Just go hard you can't really hurt yourself by crashing a 360 unless your doing it on like a 50ft gap or something

Almost every time I go skiing I progress rapidly. Friends play a big role. Having people to encourage you to do bigger and better things is crucial if you want to progress

I just feel like it takes forever to get good at least half decent at skiing. I looked at some of the now really good skiers who are still young and they were throwin steezy 9's in comps back in the day like 10 years ago and don't seem to be better skiers at all at least to me what do I know though. Plenty of kids who started skiing about 5 years ago hitting jumps and gettin into that that still don't seem al that great, (kid I see who has been able to 360 for like 2+ years still does 360's that look sketched out and doesn't have much style or at all big air when he does them.  and I started last year technically so I am at a disadvantage. I am probably worrying too much I know but I want to set some realistic goals to try and acheive by the end of this season and what kind of skier I might be end of next season.

it all depends on how badly you want to improve. in my opinion, being able to throw steezy cork 9 blunts would be my dream. set a small goal, like being able to 360, or being able to 270 out of rails consistently, and set out to achieve that goal with a group of friends to call you a pussy if you shy away (it helps tons). achieve said goal, and set a higher goal. honestly, by the time you can 270 out of rails you'll realize how fun it is, and subsequently want to 4 out of rails, and so progressions begins.

maybe the kids who are throwing cork 9's or that kid who does sketchy 3's doesn't want to do anything more, either way you need to want it to get it.

all depends on how motivated you are to progress. I've seen people get insanely better in one season, from straight airs to rodeos, cork 7s etc because they were motivated and tried new shit. The other is also true, if you aren't motivated to get better or try new things, you won't get better, aka the people who do 360's only year after year after year

learning 3's and switch 3's can be done in a day in your backyard. just make a jump and then hit it as many times as it takes. last season was my first season skiing in 5 years (i snowboarded in between) and I learned 3's and switch 3's very quickly doing what I said. If you make the jump big enough and can get enough speed then you can even try 5's if you want

I feel like i progress a ton more when im with friends and especially people that are way better for me so then i will try harder to land tricks and keep up with them.
