Slow mo with GoPro

Alright I did search bar this but it was getting hard to find somethings.  I have a mac and a GoPro.  Imovie sucks and its very limited.  I want to slow some shots down but if I slow it down more than 75% the shots are not smooth.  I am wondering if I can smooth them out through Imovie?  Also, I am looking for a free editing software for mac that supports the 60fps on the GoPro.  I have a feeling thats the issue being Imovie only exports in 30fps.  Any help from you guys would be awesome/ suggestions.

yeah get final cut pro 7... once you get that you have cinema tools which allows you to conform 60fps gopro footage into 29.97fps or even 24 fps which will give you smooth slow motion. thats how my workflow goes with my gopro and i never have problems and get smooth slow mo. imovie sucks

Yeah I conform all of my 60fps down to 24, it ends up being so smooth.

Is it just i movie blows...or is it I am not doing it right?  I basically just put the movie files into imovie.  and thats all i do.  Is that just the way it is or is there a better way.

Hey man, what you want to do, like mentioned before, is to conform your 60p clips into 24p. Final Cut Pro 7 is a hefty investment especially if your just starting out and will be confusing if you have only worked with imovie before. I would recommend you get the GoPro Cineform Studio. Its a free download on their website and it allows you to conform your clips for smooth slow motion just like you want!

i movie sucks donkey balls. there is no better way in that worthless program. best thing to do is to torrent final cut pro 7 and then download mpeg streamclip and follow this..

If you have your heart set on being legal, download kdenlive. It's an open source editor for Mac that can handle a ton of formats, and should aid in properly interpreting 60 fps into slo mo. Otherwise torrent adobe premiere pro CS5 it's way handier for go pro footage than FCP. Absolutely no reinterpreting. Color correction still wins out stock for FCP, though the Magic Bullet Colorista plugin puts CS5 back on top. Good luck!
