Getting rid of shin splints fast?

well i've been riding a lot thes past 2 weeks which has given me the worst case of shin splints that i have had in a while. Problem is tomorow is the big opening for the new park they put together with huge booters and i couldnt be more stoked, but i doubt i'll be able to do much with my shins. So i need a fast over-night way to get rid of most of the pain if not all of it. I would rest a day but i only have 4 left and i wanna make the most of them. And its not the boot's fault cos i have one of the softest i could find (double 6s). So What's the fastest way to fix it? +++++k for anything that works

That Voltarin Emulgel back pain cream works. So does ice and tightening your boots. It won't go away over night though so get ready to toughen up.

They can get pretty serious when it gets to a certain point. A friend of mine has them in both shins and hasn't skied in two years (she's a big skier) I don't know exactly what the diagnosis was, but the muscles in her shins don't hold to the bone the same way that they used to and this summer she'll be getting double shin surgery to deal with the issue. Just showing that in many cases people who complain of "shin splints" actually just have sore shins.

Lay down on the ground and have someone slowly pull your toes towards the ground for about a minute, it feels so good when you have shin splints.

i had em pretty bad last season and would even ice em during liftrides .....

be careful! Shin splints if left untreated long enough may develop into stress fractures due to the muscle and tendon being pulled away from the fibula/tibia. Make sure you get some rest for them shins! its the only way theyre going to heal.

This is a huge misconception that soft boots reduce shin bang. If your boot is too soft or too stiff for you, you can get shin bang. When your boot is too soft for you, it isnt properly supporting you and you will be constantly sliding your shin up and down the surface of the tongue all day long. It also stresses out your shin because your shin/leg have to do way more work to power the ski (less support provided by the boot means it is all on you).

So, get the right size boot, get the right width/volume, get a good footbed, make sure the cuff appropriately matches your leg shape, AND get the right flex that is neither too soft nor too stiff.

In terms of healing, there is no quick fix. You need time to heal. Pain meds will allow you to ski but you will only be causing more injury to yourself.

I heard running up hill backwards was the only thing supposedly "proven" to help shin splints........I ended up fucking up my legs waaaaaayyyy more, so don't try this...... but pretty much you need time and to gradually increase workout intensity to slowly build muscle, but advil and ice are a temporary help ....... ****but really look stuff up on google

i don't know an overnight fix, but the guys at the boot shop always told me if i bulked up my calf muscles i would get less shin bang. but these work outs are great i do something pretty similar http://walking.about.com/od/exercises/a/shintoeraise.htm

Everyone is pretty spot on here, I had Shin splints pretty bad through college and my first full season on snow. For your case right now, ice and painkillers is the only way through.

After that... rest. More ice. rest. Boring but it works.

Looks like its time to suck it up for you though pal.

I've had some success with Tiger Balm & copious amounts of Icy Hot.  Couple that with painkillers and you'll at least be able to get on the hill.  Last season I landed backseat really badly a few times on the same day, and I was waking up in the middle of the night in pain for a solid week straight.  Not good times...cost me 2 weeks of slope time to get back to normal.
