how do you make a folder a zip folder?

i know with winzip, you can zip everything together by right clickin the file you want and sayin 'add to zip' or something. then you just keep adding files to that zip folder i think.

i did it i think but its not right. i zipped a bunch of pictures together but it doesn't look like a folder with a zipper on its a strange icon

right click file, send to, compressed (zipped) folder.
