Looking for new skis: 2012 Chronic vs. Armada AR7

Looking for something in this price range ($500), open to other suggestions as well.
6ft 170lbs. Advanced skill range. Skiing on the East Coast, probably 60-70% park and 30-40% glades and groomers. Coming off skiing and loving the Volkl walls. Also taking suggestions on bindings as well. Leaning toward Marker Griffons and Look Px12s. Any suggestions?

the chronics are great, but if doing lots of park, id go for ar7, cause chronics are wide.

Faction Kennedy's are in this range. The Marker Griffon bindings are nice and light. I just mounted up a good amount of skis with the Marker bindings. I'm a rep for Faction here in the East, so that's why I'm throwing my 2 cents in... but I think you should look at the Kennedy as it's a good comparison to the AR7.

You are definitely on the right track for skis, you are looking at to stiffer skis, but that being said I would definitely go with the AR7. They are the best armada skis for all mountain, besides the alpha 1. They are really good in park, but also kill it in all mountain. The chronics are more geared towards all mountain, but are the best park ski by line, by a mile

Just got some griffons this year and they feel great. Solid as hell.


Threw them on some pipe cleaners. The AR7 is quite similar to the pipe cleaners. (just a bit stiffer).

The ski skis like a champ. Great feel. Perfect flex even w/ the AR-50 sidewall (which i was skeptical about). Great pop from rail lips to jump features.

So considering the AR7s are really similar to the pipe cleaners I'd imagine its very similar in its flex pattern and feel.

they are yellow though.....

the kennedy and ar7 are both solid choices.  for bindings, the Look Pivot series is the way to go.

Any ideas on durability? I'm looking to get probably 2 seasons out of these with some serious skiing and light urban.

I'd go AR7 as well. Some of the best all mountain skis out there that will perform where ever you are. Out of everyone I know who has skied them I've never heard a negative response. However, I do like how the chronic's are a 92mm underfoot. Better for any deep runs you're making. But my vote goes AR7.

for binding durability, it is always worth spending the money to upgrade to a better binding.  the cheaper bindings tend to be plastic.  when you upgrade to metal components, they can take a beating and last a couple more seasons (worth the extra money). 

Armada AR series (ar7) always seem to hold up really well.  A lot of people are still using older models.
