I am in Alpha Tau Omega at the U of M, pledged my fall Freshman semester and am now a senior, still loving it and not regretting it for a second. When I left high school, I was
completely anti Greek life ("I am NOT a frat douche, I'll totally never join a frat and be a bro and what not"), but joining a fraternity is the best decision I've ever made. I just had a couple friends in the house, hung out with them, met the others, and the rest is history. Of course, there are those that fit the stereotype, and that's why it's important to explore options and choose a house that is right for you, and frankly, I am almost positive there is a house somewhere that would make even the most hate filled Greek hater feel like pledging.
On a side note, ATO is nationally a dry Fraternity (basically meaning we cannot throw parties, or have any alcohol in our house at all), while also being one of the biggest in the nation, and it is fantastic. Much more focused on community service and leadership development. Evidence that all Fraternity guys aren't actually booze hounding pussy pounding bros? I think so.
In any case, haters gonna hate, but try not to bash and judge so hard on something if you have zero actual experience with it. Meeting a couple guys and going to one party is not enough exposure to pass the kinds of judgement's that are flying around in this thread.
