If i want to be a photo and video editor what would be the lowest operating system i should get?

it was shitty wording but what i meant to say is what is the best operating system that work for editing video and photo. which is the cheapest. I don't have that much money and i have windows xp which is shit. Whenever i try to edit a project in an editing software it is really glitchy. SO I NEED HELP PLZ

Windows XP is probably the best operating system ever made. I'm guessing the problem is either your program or your computer's specs. Look into either Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas for video editing. Download a trial and then find a serial number online.

The operating system specifically is not the problem.  What you want is, is a faster computer.  You should look into a new PC that will handle a 64-bit OS so you can break XP's 3.75GB memory limit.  If you want to save on some cash, look into building your own PC.  If you do it correctly you can build it to upgradeable in the future.

XP is one of the least secure OS's ever. 7 is better then XP in every way, and did just beat XP in current user base the other day.

plus if you ever have problems running software in 7 you can just run it in windows xp service pack 2 mode. Bingo!!!

i have a lenovo thinkpad r61i and it is just so slow i don't think it is fast enough for the things i want to do.

7 is definitely the best window OS to date. XP had worlds of peoples and vista was premature

Cheapest?  Get a Linux distro (100% free) and download an open-source video editing application also for free.  The most cost savings you could get.  I don't do much editing but I'm sure you could find some decent software.  Get Xubuntu for example and it runs on a lot less ram than Windows 7 (possibly XP as well), allowing more resources for editing.  Doesn't take much to make it look awesome either.

I like Windows 7 but if Windows XP is glitchy for you a low-memory Linux may be the best option.

Well i had 4 forever and then my psu crapped out hte other day so i am like fuck it "let's upgrade dis bitch!"

Soooo new psu
and i wanted more ram but my mobo only had 2 ddr2 slots, so i got a new mobo with 4 ddr3 slots, and capability to crossfire
then i had to get new ddr3 ram so i was like fuck that might as well just go all out with 16gb
and new cpu fan and more fans and a 1tb hard drive
