How many of you learned a backflip on skis?

I'm just curious because I plan on starting inverts this year and I can do front flips super easy like no one's business on a tramp, but backflips are the bane of my existence. So I pose the question how many of you just tried a backflip on skis without ever doing one previously on a trampoline or diving board?

If doing it on a tramp freaks you out just wait for a soft snow day and chuck it. If the snow is hard enough to smash your face up you shouldn't be doing inverts anyway.

6 inches of fresh is enough that you can land on your head and be pretty much fine. Wear a helmet regardless though.

if i were you i would go straigth to the park and do it off a 20-30 footer. my first backflip ever was on skis onto an airbag and i got the roation first time and just cleaned it up abit after that, went to a windlip into pow a week later but it was way too slow/i forgot to pop and caught my tips, i was absolutely fine though, im just going to find a wind lip on like my first day this season and stomp this shit out of it first time like a boss.

im the exact same way, i can't backflip for the life of me on a tramp (I can do them from my back though and they feel super comfortable). I need to go to a gym and have a pro teach me the ways, my brother fails to do so (and he's 4 years younger than me :( )

I can backflip standing flat on the ground no problem. Like, just jump and flip. For some reason, I can not fucking do a backflip on skis. Every time I try, I lawn dart to my face, which is why I usually try them into pow.

Ya i'm not really worried about getting hurt i'm just getting over the fear of flips (off the trampoline) recently and i'm pumped to bring everything to snow. I did a frontflip off my friends well yesterday and it just knocked the scared out of me lol

don't listen to this pussy. hes been pissed at the world for some time now since he managed to fuck up arguably the easiest jump trick on skis. If you can land one on a tramp you'll be fine. even if you cant, you'll probably be fine. i learned backflips on my friends trampoline this winter and stomped one on snow 2 days later. it took me 4 tries, but i never "caught my tips" or "snapped my neck" and i sure as fuck didn't have any training. My friend who is not very comfortable backflipping on tramp tried them on snow and landed upside down his first 2 tries. He didn't shatter his face. he laughed about it and tried it again. The point is, if you wanna learn backflips, you have to just go for it. you're gonna be afraid your first time no matter what but as long as you fully commit and pop off the jump you'll come around to your skis first try. good luck

I have never done a backflip on a tramp or diving board. However I have done one off a swing. I tried one on skis this summer and got about 280 degrees of the rotation. I cleared my head so I just cant wait till i can try it again

if you have troubles getting the nerve to throw one on a trampoline then get someone to spot you by grabbing the back of your shirt and helping your rotation ( throwing your legs around )... i did this in Grade 4 and have been backfliping ever since lol

I did my first backy on skis.
then started on cliffs and diving boards.
And lastly did it on a tramp, mainly because i had no access to a tramp for soo long.
But the easiness of backys goes in the opposite direction the way i learned them.

skis is way easier in my opinion

OP tramp first, its all about air awareness if you do them enough on the tramp they will come easy on skis

I learned how to do front flips first, and then learned backflips on skis a few years ago but have never been able to do them on a tramp.

I suggest building a booter in some pow, and rotate a little faster than you think you should... it's better to over rotate and land on your ass than to under rotate and eat it on your face/neck.

i've done them before on skis but i dont like to do them, i can do them flat ground without skis on, but with skis on isn't my cup of tea... if someone pays me i'll do one tho... rodeo's mistys, corks etc anything but a back flip

i can do on skis for a couple years now but i learned them of a cliff into a lake which is way more forgiving then the snow. but after i knew how to do them, they came easy on snow. i say learn on tramp or into pool or really deep pow, then try them on skis. if u don't have a tramp, find like a 5 ft cliff on a powy day and without ur skis, try backflipping off it till you can land feet first consistently

damn so most of you are saying if i can do them on a tramp, off cliffs into water, and gainers into water i should just man the hell up and just do them on skis?

Exactly! I have been doing gainers into the pool for years and i just tried my first backflip on skis and it was really easy

Backflips on a tramp are easier than front flips. It is completely how commited you are. you have to know that you know that you know that your going to completely commit to the flip or else you will not do it. just do em a ton and figure out your air awareness and they will turn out to be second nature. gainers will probably help because your going forward like you would on skis. when you click into your skis, just do what you know what to do!

Backflips are the easiest thing ever. Learn it on a tramp, master it. Then find yourself a medium sized poppy booter or jump and do it. Easiest trick for me to learn

I landed my first backflip this summer after learning them on a tramp- i wouldn't have tried it otherwise. The tramp teaches you the feeling of going upsidedown and how to correct yourself when you are rotating too fast etc, good skill to know! Get them down on a tramp though and you will have them down on snow not long after. 3 of us learnt them this summer, all got them down after a little tramp practice.

definitely learn them on the tramp first, just because tramp backies are super similar to ski backies because theyre super natural and easy as long as you commit and realize how natural a motion it is. ten times easier than fronts in both cases IMO because you spot your landing so easily/early and on skis your momentum off the lip makes it really natural

biggest difference between tramp and snow: forward movement, and weight on your feet. so the closest thing to a ski backie would be a gainer with ankle weights on haha
