what up bro. as a mitten resident i will tell you now...Winter starts when winter wants. usually boyne, crystal, shanty creek, nubs nob set a tenative opening day of thanksgiving weekend but its up to mothernature. Most the time it sucks. there are 3 greens open and you have to weave through the snow guns. Some years there is 2.5 ft of fresh and noone is around (2009) opening weekend. Check the resort websites a day or two ahead. If you have a choice i would say boyne is where to be. they have the best snowmaking and usually more terrain open. hope this helps. hit me up if you do try boyne that weekend bc i will be there.
it's so hit or miss you really never know until a few days before... however most resorts in michigan have the snowmaking capabilities to open at least one run within 24 - 36 if the weather conditions are right... well see
Ski Brule in the U.P. is always the first to open in Michigan and they are shooting for Nov. 12th, but once again its all up to mother nature. They will be the first open tho. Its definitely a good time if you can make the drive.
