dude, are you serious? have you ever seen a warren miller film claiming it was a progressive freeskiing movie? they showcase skiing to more of a mainstream audience. they aren't newschool movies. they show all the different aspects of skiing. they actually have some soul to them in the skiing too. they show people having fun skiing, and are usually pretty entertaining and show some amazing skiing. what sucks about that?

I honestly believe that Warren Miller singl-handedly (Well, with th help of some others) made skiing what it is today!

He has always been at the latest mountains with all the latest gear and gratest skiers ready to film for the past 50+ years without fail! Not only does he support the progression of the sport, but he supports ALL SKIERS and not just the same 20-some that are in every Jib movie each year. He was also the first to make REAL ski movies and then he was the first to show ski movies to people who didn't necessarily give a shit about skiing, which is still true today (His movies have even made it onto Starz and HBO). I think the gratest thing about him is that all of his movies are about having fun and skiing because it truly is freedom in nearly every sense of the word. If you can't appreciate that than maybe you're the one who shouldn't get any respect in the Skiing Community...

I do admire what Warren Miller and Co do. if you watch those movies you do know that they are entertaining to watch and do also have some some sick footage, also if you did watch his movies you would know that last year they had a lot of really fucking sick jib footage (the rail jam at breck with the Xterra rail...oooooo so sick.) My cousins live some bum fuck town in wisconsin where snow is few and far between, when Warren Miller plays at their local highschool its better than anyday at their local 400 ft vertical landfill with snow on top. I know without Warren Miller there probably wouldn't even be MSPs TGRs or PBPs and without his movies most kids wouldnt even known what newschool is. Even if you dont like his movies it is undenyable that Warren Miller helped bring skiing to the masses, hey probably some of the kids that are on this site wouldnt even be here if it werent his movies influencing your dads to take you skiing.

Warren Miller films just seem like a bunch of ski bums rockin out because they like to ski so much, which makes a good movie, but I always seem to fall alseep.

Next years will probably be called 'Ice cold' or 'warren millers 60 years old'.. it doesn't really matter, its gonna be the same type of movie. Yet I'll probably go see it.

warren miller shit is gay, so is MSP and TGR. they had their time, now they need to move over.

And dont say shit about what warren miller did for skiing, or anything to that effect. That's fine, but the fact that the company still puts out skiing movies aimed at 'the general public' or whoever, and then throws random new shit in there really hurts. The people progressing that stuff are the skiers themselves, and filmers like PBP, level1, and all the other new companies you'll read about on here (theory3, offtrail, sas, etc, yeah I left like 80 out). So if the new WM movie has some 'newschool' footage in it, it's about the same to me as the latest Vin Diesel movie having extreme snowboarding in it. It's capitalizing on other people's deal, and gayifying it.

I can't believe all these people don't like WM. Not many people, except us, are going to buy movies from PBP, lvl 1, MSP, TGR, plehouse, because they have absolutely no clue what's happening in skiing, but they might buy a warren miller movie, because it appeals more to their interest. With the urban rail segs in his movie, those people will learn what's happening, and get more interested and eventually buy PBP and MSP movies. Newschool ski movies wouldn't be where they are if not to warren miller.

ok, since i have hated all of warren millers ski movies to date, im going to take some time to reply to your responces.

Remember the 30 minutes of telemarking and kyaking in africa or the boring reptitive powder turns that tried so desperatley to capture the 'soul' of skiing and wound up causing the most paper airplanes i have ever seen at a warren miller premier to fly. ever.

People were documenting skiing long before warren miller. He deserves no props for creating anything other than bringing skiing to the main stream, which brings me to the next point...

Warren miller is responsible for the lame image skiing has right now. Watch any of his movies over the last 3 years and you will notice that he is making skiing look weak and for old people, then the snowboarders show up with 'cool' music comprised of young kids. warren miller easily has the biggest budget to spend on making a ski movie, therefore, in case you havent noticed, gets to shoot at some of the most amazing locations, with the best equipment, and pretty much hands down shoots a more high quality movie than anyone else in the game right now, along with msp

So...unless you think the shit Scot Schmidt does is 'gay' or lame, maybe you should check it out again. Warren Miller was top of his game, he wasn't making ski movies just for old people. What the hell? Have you even ever seen one? You can't fill 50 minutes with people doing powder turns, he had cliffs and hucks and stuff too. And he WAS the first to document skiing in a skiing movie type fashion. Sure people had video-taped skiing before, maybe for infomercials or home videos, but he was the one to take it, tape it, add music, and sell it for people to watch for pleasure.

i personally think storm sucked, but other than that the ones i've seen are pretty damned good. i see them every year at an old local theatre.... it's the beginning of my season.

Midwest, that was in the 70s. He was making skiing look cool and young because that was the image it had. He has now shifted that image to snowboarding and is sending skiing down the shithole with shots of old people doing powder turns down green runs. You do have a very good point and i agree, in the days of scott schmidt warren miller was helping the sport of skiing. Sorry for overlooking that, but you still must admit hes taking from the sport with his current movies.

im just not understanding how you can say that wm is capitalizing on other ppls deal and gayifing it. if you go back and watch old wm films and old msp or pb films, you will jp auclair and jonny moseley and the rest of the canadian airforce on those films at the same time. wm started filming park and newschool at the same time everybody else did, so plz dont say he is stealing or mooching off someone elses ideas.

I was just thinking that same thing. Seems to me like a few people have lost site of what it is to just go out and play in the snow. I may not like Warren Miller Movies, but you know what, they are a good time to go watch, put back a million beers and get rowdy with your crew. Maybe this 'progression' of skiing is leaving a few things out.

Amen, those last few posts have really started to get it. I am glad there are still some on this board that still think about the soul of skiing.

It would be a shame to become 'cooler than life' as many of this board feel they are. While at the same time forgetting the soul of skiing and most importantly the joy of it all.

It seems like alot of people become so preoccupied with being cool that they forget about the joy in riding on a pair a stick down a snowy hill.
