Hey guys, one thing I had to do for a long time was make a logo so people recognise my videos and think of me. I have a bit of experience with design but Im wondering if this logo cuts it. Any technical pointers, things to remove...

Your spacing between the elements seems to be a little poorly considered. It looks like the spacing between the letters from word to word is a little different, then perhaps the spacing between words from line to line is different, then the spacing between the word lockup and the decorative lines on the outside is different. You should set up a system where it all feels the same, such as having the letter spacing all appear the same, and then the rest of the spacing between each word and the other lines feel the same.

Also, is there a reason for putting so much emphasis on "RICH"? because if it's just there to be decorative, it's drawing one's eye away from the rest of what's going on.

The right-angle bracket makes me expect to see a right-aligned text, yet the "-mat-" throws everything off. Having that center-aligned with the rest right-aligned throws off the whole flow imo.

Also, not sure why you have a bunch of stuff on the bracket; it looks unnecessarily busy. The tried and true adage when it comes to design is "don't make me think." Simple is better always.

God damm it I suck at at graphic design. Its rough for now, that justifies the akward spacing. One big thing i see is the mat feels excluded. So do i try to fix it and go with this idea or start fresh?

not a big fan of the little red dot and the shapes that go towards it. I do like the simple white line corner though

Things I noticed right away. the dashes on either side of Mat are different lengths...why? Also the line connecting the a and the dashe's causes weird tention because they are at different heights.

also having white text will mean you will always have to have logo on something dark.

I wouldn't exactly describe the responses in this thread as being "harsh." Even then-people need to grow a pair and learn how to take criticism or even vehement flaming. If we told everyone their work is good simply for the sake of being nice, it would defeat the purpose and that person's work will remain poor.

Idealy watch in hd, but its a bit glitchy for now since I just edited without the intent of keeping it so certain things wernt right for blending and now its glitchy, it will get fixed when Im done. I took off the triangles, added a gradent to them, fixed the mat lines and made the dot more associated with video by making it flash.

maybe try some lowercase and mess around with font types to see how the spacing between letters and lines will look

I would get ride of the dashes and line "mat" up with rich and media on the right. It will bring elements, especially Mat and Media, of the logo together

the t does seem to be a little off but seeing the logo from watching the video it does come up quite nicely...and seeing the red dot blink showing it is a production for capturing video is sick!

I dont know what you critics think but I think its an improvement.

thanks, by the way, to the guy above who gave feedback... with some positive. Yes taking critic is one thing, but giving critics the right way is also something.

Just try to be nice for this next round of critiquing. Im all down for advice and I have taken a lot of it and applied it, but also add some positive. Not just for my moral but its good to know what is being done right. I think thats what peter was talking about when he said you guys are now tough.

It looks a lot better, but I still don't understand why there's so much emphasis on "RICH".

I would also try putting the MAT RICH on one line and MEDIA on a second, and having one horizontal element with the red dot on the left and the faded things that look like level bars in between the two lines.

It was never bad to begin with, don't be so hard on yourself!

second draft definitely looks better, i like the small boxes on the side leading into the red spot, very similar to a film strip frame (which im sure you already know)

possible suggestion, maybe have the M in the top right corner, with it spelling Mat horizontally, and Media vertically, and then in the box that creates, put rich, maybe ri on the top line, ch, on the bottom, in the same color scheme you have now.

again, i dont know what im talking about, but just a suggestion if you're looking for something to play around with.

looks good, keep it up!

I think it looks great. What if you could make it so the clapper closes up and the letters disappear? I think that would be pretty cool.
