Help: The shin bang is still here...

Before anyone says there are tons of threads about this, listen:

Shin bang is different for everyone.

My shin bang started the first year i bought my Technica Agent 80's. This was 2 years ago. I have been to the doctors, and they told me Shin bang=Shin splints. Of course i knew this already. So he told me to rest my shins and take it easy. So i did. By the time ski season came back along i was feeling better. The second day i went skiing...it was back. I put up with it for the rest of last year. Its summer now and i still feel the shin bang. i can run my fingers along my shin and point out the quarter size spot on my shin where i feel the pain. I have tried lots of stuff to ease my pain, i tried booster straps, the eliminator, i even had my boots modified to have more flex in them. but this was all to no avail.

So my bottom line is, what do you recommend? i tried on the 2011 SPK's and they hurt more than my old boots haha

im guessing alot of you are going to say full tilts right?

I agree with his advice, you need to strengthen/loosen up you calf muscles. Shin splints result from the calf muscles pulling at where they attach to the bone. The problem may have developed during ski season but doing things like running on hard surfaces during the summer will do just as much to exacerbate it. It is also possible that this has developed into a stress fracture in which case just resting it isn't likely to make much difference.

its not the boot its the user..... quit leaning back, should fix the problem.

shin bang is the tibias being bent... imagine a skewer stick being bent.... you know how it frays and starts to splinter, your tibias do that. if you stop leaning back your bones won't splinter. end of shin bang

right. see all you guys are saying "just stop leaning back" i mean its not that easy. when your trying new tricks, you tend to get off balance and its hard to stay upright. there are probably a lot of reasons my shin bang is here, playing soccer like everyday is not helping i can tell you that. I do work my calves a lot. i would say they are very strong for my age. so that part of the deal is take care of.

Ahh yup the soccer is your problem for sure, the cleats do not help in the least, especially if you aren't playing on grass. At one point about a third of the girls on my team had shin splints. One of whom ended up stuck in a cast for a couple months because it developed into a stress fracture.

I got mine from doing 360s, landing backseat,
Someone on here told me to look up the mountain when Im halfway through my turn, fuck me it worked, no more backseat! i recommend trying this

it might not be easy but thats the solution, go to the gym and do weighted claf raises till you can't walk, i did that it actually helped i never get shin bang anymore

FUCK SHIN BANG!!! I've tried everything too man. Makes you feel like such a bitch when your thinkin about not even hittin another run, cause you think your legs are gonna snap the second you get off the lift!! If you find a magical trick let me know... seriously. (When in doubt... Just take like half a bottle of advil. Usually takes the edge off)

woW fuck this.. jusst Wanted to add do you stretch before skiing? for me stretching helped . what helped me a lot aswell was using 2 pairs of socks. cant say why but it worked for me 2 big pair

If im not mistaken, thats cos your botts dont fit you right/they arent tight enough as you arent gettig the support you need to take the strain of landing/lamding backseat.

When I had Agent 80s I faced a lot of shin bang. However, this past season I used Full Tilts for the first time and was very please. Mind you, my FTs also fit a lot better than the Agents. It's been said though- it all depends on your foot and which boot fits it best, not what fits your buddy or most of NS.

This made me laugh...

In other news, I came up short on the last kicker at Saas Fee, bounced and then my leg grabbed a big mound of slush. Ended up going to get X-rays, not fractures, but the muscle running along my shin ruptured... ironic that I was part of this thread when I got the worst shin bang of my life... Out for 3 weeks. Going back home in 1 week. Rad...
