Checking bindings

so my friend gave me a pair of old(ish) Salomon bindings to throw on my pow skis. He said that there was something wrong with the springs in 'em, and i want to get them checked so i dont eject when im in some pow and lose my ski. I took them to the shop and the guy told me i have to mount them to get them checked. But fuck that, im not gonna mount them and then have them be broke. So basicly NS, i was wondering if i could just mount them on some 2x4's and have them check or what? O and 1000 post claim

It should work, but I doubt the shop will want to deal with this, way too much liability. Show up with a boot, bindings, some 2x4s and a ton of beer.

Attach the ski to the pants.

But really your biggest problem would them not releasing when you need them to. Your idea sounds like it should work though. IMO it's not worth the risk of using any kind of faulty binding though. (Coming from having done my knee) See if you can get a cheap binding from a rental store they sometimes sell them cheap off skis that have broken or are too damaged to rent out.

Try contacting Salomon, I think that would be your best bet. I'm sure they can determine if they are good or not and you might even get a new set of bindings.

Find old skis drilled for Salomon, the hole patterns are all the same for the good models for the last 15 + years.

if you take a binding to a shop with a bad spring, they're gonna mount it, fail it, then take it back off and tell you they wont mount it and charge you. they're not trying to screw you its just that they can't legally mount a failed binding. either do some research and try and fix it yourself or get a new binding.

sorry I didn't get your 2x4 part. shops also can't legally mount a binding to anything but a ski, but its worth a shot.

just drill them to a board yourself and test them. Snap your boots in and test the din settings, not really rocket science.

theres a special device used to measure if the boot releases at the right amount of force corresponding to the din setting. certified shops havem. its not as easy as knock your boot on the side with a firm blow and see if it clips out... you have no idea how that corresponds to the force of a fall
