Profahoben_212Ah man a guide died at one of the local crags. Anchor failure is all I could find about it which is extremely concerning to say the least. Seemed like a good guy with wife and kids. Shitty all around.
Climbing deaths are also extremely weird where you need to respect the family and privacy, but also want to find out what actually happened and see if it is preventable in the future or can be a learning moment for others.
BrandoComandoIn skiing, the avy center would write up an incident report and publish the details of the accident to help others learn from the event. It's a shame there isn't a similar organization in the climbing world. Seems like there could be a big opportunity there.
Really unfortunate to hear about that poor man. What a sad situation. Nobody expects to die having fun in the mountains. I hope his family can find peace and support.

ReturnToMonkeyLas Vegas shouldn't exist. Flying over and seeing every house with green grass and a pool made me disgusted

twinkle_toesOT hours should be tax free
partyandBSFuuuuuck no! That would shift out culture the wrong way. People would try to work more OT. 40+ is already insane for a work life balance in a developed country. Theres 168 hours a week assuming you sleep 8 hours a day that leaves 112. That means your spending 36% of your time work towards someone else’s dream. Of the 72 waking hours you have left in the week, a lot of that is spent getting ready for work, commuting to work, and doing chores etc. theres already not enough time for a life.
So im salaried so I get my shit done ASAP and dip lol. That being said, i have 124 employees that work for me in my department. This year we are shifting to 4 9 hour shifts so everyone gets a 3-day week to do whatever they please.(some will get second jobs if they please others will play in the mountains etc) Im hoping this improves work life balance and in return has more productive employees while at work and work is more enjoyable
BrandoComandoAs a Northern Nevada resident, there's nothing we love to do more than to shit on Las Vegas. But to give them credit, Vegas is actually doing a pretty good job managing their water. It's illegal to have grass in 50% of a yard. They just passed a law a few weeks ago that bans the watering of decorative grass, and they're forcing tons of turf to be ripped out of the ground by 2026. Evaporative "swamp" coolers are banned too.
Every drop of water used in Vegas is treated by the Southern Nevada Water Authority and re-enters the supply or is returned to the Colorado River. The population has increased by 750,000 people in the last 20 years, and total water usage has decreased by 24 billion gallons. That's a 47% per-capita reduction since 2002.
Swimming pools use less water per square foot than a lawn, so they're actually a more efficient use of a yard than grass. It looks inefficient but it's actually encouraged by the SNWA.
If you want to point fingers, point them at Southern California. Communities like Palm Springs are sucking the Colorado River dry. There's no reason to be using open-air aqueducts to move water to irrigate government-subsidized farms. Vegas is doing their diligence to drastically reduce water usage in spite of a rapidly increasing population.
Vegas got the short end of the stick from the Colorado River Compact, because the city never existed at the time of the Compact. Nevada only uses 4% of the allocated water from the Colorado River. Arizona uses 37.3%. California exceeds its allocated 58.7% every year. If you look at population distributions, you'll see that those percentages are way out of whack. Las Vegas is actually an extremely efficient desert city.

ReturnToMonkeyGreat to know! SoCal definitely disgusts me a lot more. Also a desert but instead of taking from the river a few miles away, it takes more water from hundreds of miles away. Crazy to me.
BigPurpleSkiSuitWonder what the best strategies for building a smokeshack at my home mountain are, and if I could get into serious trouble with anyone for building one

Rparrfuckin send it, all my videos were 100% iphone filmed. The skiing makes the edit, not the filming device

LippamaniBro that's an insane deal such a nice bike.
I fell so bad for that guy he probably doesn't even know what he's doing to himself. Honestly I don't think I'd buy it because you know as soon as he's sober he's going to be so sad he sold it. And I would not want to be in that guy's position.

DeebieSkeebiesI really do enjoy the wildlife on our golf course we work at. You see all sorts of newt things day-to-day. Like I got stopped by a bull elk herd yesterday that scared the shit out of me. Tons of cool birds too. We have a family of the coolest red tailed hawks and some eagles. Magpies can fuck off though. I've had both a bag of granola and a granola bar stolen from from me on the same hole by the same bird. Dude I payed him a peace offering
