Helping someone paralysed below the waist?

Yo,
My boss, who is also a good friend, was in a biking accident a few weeks ago and is now paralysed below the waist. I'm going to see him on monday and wondered if anyone had any good ideas of what I could take for him or anything I could do whilst I'm there...

One of my friends got paralysed below the waist due to rock climbng accident.Me and my friends got him the biggest pile of ski movies (he also very avid skier) which he really liked but One of the greatest gifts you can give is your time and your presence. Go sit with him, and just talk and stuff.

definitely agree with the time and presence. Just showing you care is what matters most. If it was me and I got a bunch of ski videos I think I would just get depressed that couldn't do it anymore.

It´s what he asked for, maybe not suited for everyone. But we got him so much more then he asked for, he said well just give me a ski movie so I can spent time here in hospital and we gave him around 45.

But time and presence is really important one saturday a month we go to his place and hang out with him instead of going to clubs, we make a little party at his place and you can really see that that means allot to him. His face really brightens evrytime.

But for real, don't overthink it. Just go chill with him and talk to him about shit unrelated to his accident. Get his mind off of stuff. And introduce him to marijuana if he isn't already. I honestly think that it would improve his quality of life.

Damn, that's really rough... Vibes to your friend, I can't even imagine...

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for work? Will he be able to go back to his job when he gets out of rehab? (I think that's what you call it for people who were injured...)


I'm sure fixing up your work place (if that's feasible) to be more compatible would mean a shit ton if he really enjoyed his job.

Or one of the ski things for disabled people. Theres still a shit ton of awesome things to do if your paralyzed, open his mind up to some of that stuff like the 4 wheeled bike or the ski-boggan, let him know his fun is not over and Im sure he will enjoy that. ++ vibes to him, that would shatter my word if I got that news.

I would work on making the workplace accessible for him for when he gets back. ie: put ramps in all the places so he can go everywhere, stuff like that.

Seeing as he is never going to walk again, I'm sure something he loved doing sitting next to his bedside would cheer him right up. Fuck off you prick...

And i've managed to get Sir Chris Hoy (olympic cyclist) to write him a get well note, which should make him very happy indeed!

The single best thing you can do for someone paralyzed from the waist down is to share success stories of those who have overcome that obstacle to regain the pursuit of who they are. Doing things to help Andy definitely did a lot to set my head right and remind me of how lucky I am to be me.
