So I just had a massive argument with my roommate about giving a shit about the rest of the world, or not, environment set aside. It kind of depends of how much you hear about "the news." I was also trying to convince him to vote, since (in case you didn't know) people are dying, raping, fighting for the right to vote (in a nutshell). I determined he is super fucking ignorant, but I knew this after arguing about donating to Japan after the tsunami. So how much do you care about yourself vs. others:
On a 7-point scale:
0 - You don't know sweet fuck all about what goes on outside of your town.
1 - You don't know sfa about what goes on outside your country.
2 - You are aware of what goes on a little bit, but only care at all about the people you know.
3 - You feel compassion/grief/sorrow/etc. for the less fortunate, but only a very small amount.
4 - You get little choked by the worst of misfortune (i.e. Libya, Japan, Ivory Coast, and on and on).
5 - You moderately care and discuss things with others.
6 - You genuinely give a shit and feel obligated to convince others to give a shit too.
7 - You actively participate in organisations or politics that are humanitarian or peace-keeping.
I admit, ignorance is bliss, but I am a 6.
