Moving to Vegas - Green Card Q

 Need legal / immigration info? Clearly ask NS.

So me and 3 buddies are thinking about moving down to Vegas in a few months. Won't get into the details, but in short, we're 21-22, finishing up school in a month, and looking for a change. Been to Vegas before and loved it. Plus America is still getting pwnd by this economy apparently and you can get legit houses for 100k. I couldn't believe the places I was looking at. I'm scooping one up quick. You can't get a pot to piss in near a city up here for that cheap. So just a couple q's for anyone who has been through the process of moving to America:

1. How hard is it to get a Green Card / Perminent resident card (allows you to live and work there)? A couple of us have uni degrees and a couple just highschool. Will they let us in to work or do you need to be filling some sort of specific need? We're looking to be tax paying citizens, no criminal records, etc etc.

2. My mom has duel citizenship and can probably get me one quickly even though she lives here, but it doesn't really help out my friends. On the website its a bit confusing but sounds like you need to be "sponsored" in by an employer or a family member. What if your just going to find work while your down there? Is there a general application you can fill out to get a card? Or do you HAVE to have a job BEFORE you go down, and then be "sponsored" by that employer?

my advice, dont go to vegas. theres so many cool fucking places here why would you choose to live in the shithole of the US?

I'm from Canada haha, taxes are the LEAST of my concern moving to 'murica. More worried about getting allowed in.

As for why we chose Vegas, theirs lots of reasons. Thought about a mountain town but not everyone skis, plus the cost of living is huge. The only other decent places I'd want to go is NYC (way too $), Cali (the only good parts way to $), and Florida (my parents are retiring and moving there, nuff said). Vegas is legit. I can get a baller 4 bedroom with a pool, great neighbourhood for like $500/month mortgage. I think it would be a really fun place to go and chill for a year, get a nice house, get people down visiting, have the time of our lives. It can't be worse than the 2 closest American places to me. MI and Upstate new york. You want to talk about the "shittiest" part of America, take a tour of those gems.

If you come make sure you pay it all off. Don't come to the U.S bitch out on your loans then move back to Canada. We have enough shit head americans that do that and that's part of teh reason our economy sucks.

-I'm not calling you a shithead as of now I'm sure you're a perfectly nice guy. But make sure that if you come you have a secure job that can afford you whatever house you're looking at

funny i see this as i actually have just been studying about immigration. I think it's pretty hard to get a green card though if you don't have a legit reason for coming to the U.S. If your trying to get a better life or something then you can claim that. I'm not sure about the specifics though

I'm from Ontario, I think I can argue I'm making a better life for myself by getting tfo and dipping to vegas haha jk.

I do know what I'm getting myself into though for whoever asked up there. I've done the research into the houses, areas, talking to agents, etc etc etc. But none of it means anything if I can't get a work permit. How do mexicans come up every summer to work on farms? I guess they're sponsored. Maybe thats my best bet. I don't know anyone there though.... hmmm. So much confusing paper work. Maybe I'll just to the US embassy and pick their brain.

my understanding is that you need to have a job that will (as you called it) sponsor your work eligibility. my roommate last year just married his canadian girlfriend and it even took them a long time and a lot of hassle to get her work-eligible.

They squeeze out a bunch of kids, so when there might be a case of deportation, all the mexis get up and arms saying "we're people too" (in Spanish), and the media makes a big deal about it, so liberals try to give them social services and try to hook up their quasi-legal to legal homies so they can live well and vote for Dems.

it's far more complicated than that, but most of the time that is how it feels.

Soo looks like to get a Visa the employer needs to prove no American can do the job and you have a special skill. Uhhg. Doesn't look like this is going to work out. How does australia and Europe allow work Visa's and not America. Such a piss off.
