I ran a bus stop sign........help

I ran one of these on accident, bus driver called the cops. Cops came to my house. I told him everything that happened and he said he would get back to me. Some kids were off the bus by the way, which i guess is some serious stuff. I also have a clean driving record.

Possible outcomes:
Go to court and get a gross misdemeanor with a hefty fine.
Go to court get a hefty fine.
Not go to court and get a semi hefty fine.

Its the bus drivers call and by the sounds of it he/she wasnt too happy.

Has this happened to anyone or know what will happen?

Your not going to jail but you'll pay the fee, and you should pay it . You have to pay attention, no if and's or buts. You could have killed a kid if the kid took 3 steps out from the front of the bus. pay the fine and learn your lesson.

No i saw all the kids, and none were in the road. I was coming towards the bus not coming from behind. And trust me i've learned my lesson, it was embarrassing enough for the neighbors to see a squad car in my driveway.

you say you've had your license for three years, which would make you at least 19. And you're driving erratically past a school bus and checking out all the high school kids who take the bus, which would be mainly 9th and 10th graders. I really don't have any sympothy for some out of control 19 yr old who is staring at 14 and 15 year old girls butts and endangering hundreds of people around him...

Lay off this guys back, he was responsible looking around and seeing no one was crossing, he just didn't realize it was a law to stop when the sign is out.
I think you should go to court, the bus driver prolly just wanted you to know you can't do that, he prolly won't even show up. And if he does just explain that you saw the kids not crossing and decided to go.

Two completely different things... No kids ever get hurt because a girl drives drunk by herself... Lots of kids get hurt when irresponsible drivers run school bus stop signs!

I dont even speed, max i go is 5 above (i guess you could call that speeding). I've never hit anything except a snowbank when i was backing up.

I like driving fast i live 12 miles out of town so you really can't help it.


^and no there are really terrible cops where I live, when I lived in Tahoe the cops were so nice up there! I got in a bad habit living at Kirkwood where there is a mile of road you can drive and there is no cops its also 45 min out of any town.

I would hope there wouldn't be any kids running around the streets at 3 in the morning. Do you live in a town that has backroads everywhere? No. Everyone does it.

Shit, if i had a whip that was ment to go fast unlike my SUV then i would drive it fast all the time. Cars that are made to go fast are very safe at high speeds. BMW's are engineeeeeered to "fly". Does that mean im putting anyone in danger shredding mountain roads ? Absolutely not. I'm not running stop signs , reds or driving on the sidewalk like the OP Felon on her killing kids as soon as they get off the bus or anything.

this happened to me once but the situation was different...

crested a super steep hill, bus was slowing down, it was snowing/the roads were covered, i was going the speed limit, crested, saw bus , hit brakes, all four wheels locked up, slid through the stop sign. fun time

I'd rather think and be in control of what I'm doing and break a rule than just follow a rule because it's a rule. Drunk driving impairs your decision making ability, this guy recognized no kids were crossing kept going.
It's kinda like playground zones, sure people should recognize it's a playground and slowdown, but by ticketing people you make them care more about going the speed limit than not hitting children. I'd rather have someone going 40 and watching for kids than someone going 30 on a cell phone not paying any attention to their surroundings.

You did the crime, and there's no turning back from it. You will have to go to court.

Best bet is to plea bargain. Admit to doing it but reinforce your clean driving record and how now you are much more educated about why the law is in place to begin with. Judges like to see that stuff and notice what you learn from committing a serious crime.

You're lucky you didn't hit a kid and wont get locked up for years.

I did that to, but i had to put it into a snowbank so i didn't slam the line of cars that was dead stopped 200 feet away. i was going 45, fucking Gapers. No damage.
