Sup guys, so I have to write this paper for my sociology class, here's a brief paraphrasing of the assignment outline:

Your assignment is to create a Charter of Rights and Freedoms and a set of laws to govern the Internet with the goal of creating the best internet possible.

Define what an ideal internet looks like to you. If the goal is to create "the best internet possible," what does that mean to you? Feel free to ask philosophical questions like: How can we balance freedoms and responsibilities online?

Justify your proposals, don't just describe them. Why are they an improvement on the status quo?

I figured NSG might be a pretty good place to do some basic informal research, so I was wondering if you guys could give me a hand and offer up some ideas. I'm not trying to get NS to do my homework for me, I just figured I could benefit from the ideas of people like yourselves who are active internet users.



tl;dr, writing Bill of Rights and set of laws for the internet, any helpful ideas are appreciated

Just make sure have have a good definition of rule 34. And possibly 35. And remember, pics give extra points.

It's pretty easy to tell who's actually trying to help. I'm willing to sort through the bullshit to hopefully find a few good ideas. And if there aren't any, it's not like I'm any worse off than I am now.

If you're looking for ways to cut down on piracy and child porn and that shit, just think if everyone's IP was easily tied to their true identity. Illegal stuff, hate, racism, and even trolls would become far more scarce I think. I mean, I know they can backtrace your intermawebz now and someone with computer knowledge could probably find you, but I'm talkin like you could easily look an IP address up in a phonebook of sorts.

The internet should be more or less the way it is. Obviously you should try and keep acts or terrorism and crime and things of that sort off it. But everything else can stay. You don't have to use the internet and if you don't like it don't use it. or better yet, if you don't like child porn, stay off child porn sites. no one is forcing anyone onto these websites. Unless you're stupid when it comes to the internet, then you might as well just leave cause you're going to complain and ruin it for everyone else.

For the most part, I agree with you there, and I've more or less been thinking I'm gonna take that route with this thing. You can't take away people's free speech. But tracking people's IP addresses with regards to their contributions to content online, as the gentlemen posted above, could very well deter previously anonymous people from making those types of contributions harmful to the idea of "creating the best internet possible"

well people like anon who are doing stuff like that probably know ways to hide their IP from the government or people who want to see. I mean I don't think anyone from anonymous has been arrested yet.

Yeah, I know that, but based on our class lectures I don't think he expects us to have too much knowledge of that type of thing. He basically referred to the Youtube comments section as the worst place on the internet so I don't think he even knows that /b/ exists.
