Toe nail problem

I just banged my big toe pretty bad and it's all blue and shit and the nail is gonna be falling off anytime now. Seeing as it's about the best ski day this season here, i'm looking for ideas so i can ski without it hurting like a bitch. Skiing switch the whole time works, but apparently doing it as a patroler sets a bad example. Cheers.

cut as much off as you can, leave the nail as round and smooth as possible, then try and tape it in as good as you can ....

take some pain relievers and go skiing, lean froward very well so you dont bang your toes :) :)

had a similar thing when someone dropped a coffee table on my toe :)

If it's bruised underneath then heat up a needle red hot and pierce a hole right through the nail to let it drain. That relieves a lot of pain and it's really satisfying, listen for the pop.

tape some goss pads down tightly around your toe...it will protect your toe and make the pain almost un-noticable

yea I was told to cut it open with a knife and 'let the blood squirt out'. not really looking forward to that.

I did the same thing last week over shooting a jump to flats. It sucked and it takes forever to go away. I just kind of toughed it out until now and it doesn't hurt anymore.

what's a thread without pics.
so here's right as the needle popped through to the quick, then I stopped caring about taking pictures.
a surprising amount of blood came out soon as I took the needle out

cut it as small as you can. then tape it. pop in some mortin or whatever you prefer then when you but on your boot do the top then kick your heal so your foot is right ing the back of your boot so your toe wont hit it as much. this happened to me in the beginning of the season. hope this helps! and i hope your toe gets better!

actually not bad at all. if you go down too deep then there's a bit of a prick, especially if the needle is still super hot, but it's quite agreeable considering you're jabbing a hot piece of metal through the top of your toe.

yea flat landings. mine came from casing a jump pretty bad. but I hadn't cut my nails in a while, I feel like if I had kept them trimmed then it wouldn't have happened.

Wow that pic is awesome, did it squirt like 3 feet into the air? Thats what mine usually do, happens every year.

A family friend of mine who is a veterinarian gave me a hollow needle with a bit of a slash cut tip. It works great, just roll it between your fingers and it drills through the nail really easily.

a couple of years ago i both of my big toenails came off right around this time of the season. Once they're off it's good to soak them a few times a day for the first week in warm water, epsom salt and vinegar to kill bacteria. Go buy some toe gel caps at cvs, yes they make them, they'll help buffer the nerves plus they're really comfy and warm. Your nails should be fully grown back by the summer. Overall you shouldn't have too much pain just do it right the first time so you have no problems cause my friend has had to stop skiing because he had too many issues with toenails and now has none on his big toes. No protection is not good for ski boots. Good luck.

hot needle, or just tough it out and keep smashing it till it falls off.

hot needle = just heat it up and gently punch it through the nail to relieve some of the pressure. Once it's bruised bad though it probably won't heal. Just cut it as low as u can and tough it out.


*just saw the pic, that method def works. Looks painful, but if you do it right you will just feel relief and no pain.

i had the same problem. i took my moms nail filer and make it round and smooth. then i kept a band aid over it till i ripped it off. its a lot easier to rip it off after a long shower so its all soft and stuff

This happened to me just this last weekend, tonnes of advice on here. I'm stoked I found this site. I drained it last night using a syringe and have taped it over as said on here, as they all said before me, instant pain relief basically, doesnt just hurt, only if I aggrevate it and it doesnt really hurt at all. Oh yeah, pic related its my toe before draining.

Fuuuck I think I'm gonna do the needle thing tomorrow. The throbbing is unbearable and I just need to relieve some pressure. Not stoked at all

yea do the needle thing. it was so relieving. didn't have any more pain at all. then if took a few weeks and it fell off on its own as the new one growing pushed it off.

I also wouldn't wait, just do it right away. and in a bathtub, it squirted a bit
