Don't Use Internet Explorer...

the US government is saying no to using internet explorer. Finally, what we've been saying for a long time is official, it sucks.

mozilla.org is far and away teh best alternative in my eyes, although Opera isn't half bad.

yes, that's the only complaint I have, but it's worth it. No pop ups, much safer browsing, in exchange for no pull downs in this site.

everybody get Advanced Browser from downloads.com....its fucking awesome..adn works perfectly. i have had this computer since september and i havent had one virus or popup...EVER! git sum now.

After reading this thread I got mozilla firefox....after having it for a few days I can already say that I love it. Tabbed browsing is dope...no pop ups...google search bar....customizable...better than IE.

I've used opera in the past, but I find for my needs, firefox is better. The extensions you can add on to it with make it so awesome. Opera is definitly a viable choice though.

Itsbackfliptime....in my first hour I wasn't sure if I liked it better either...but I downloaded a bunch of dope extensions...customized the look, got to know it better, etc...and now im hooked. Give it a little time, I think you will like it a lot more.

Developers at the open-source Mozilla Foundation have confirmed that the latest version of their Web browsers have a security flaw that could allow attackers to run existing programs on the Windows XP operating system.

The flaw, known as the 'shell' exploit, was publicized Wednesday on a security mailing list, along with a link to a fix for the problem. Updated versions of the affected software programs, which include the Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird browsers, have been released.

Developers said the flaw affects only Windows users, not computers running the Macintosh and Linux operating systems. Like recent Internet Explorer vulnerabilities, this flaw only allows the attacker the ability to run an existing program and requires that security problems in other applications be exploited to gain further access.

The flaw can be used to pass a file extension to the operating system. Windows XP will then run the helper application corresponding to that file extension. The main threat comes from the ability of an attacker to pass parameters to exploit vulnerabilities in a specific helper application, which could give an outsider access to the system. A shell problem could also cause the computer to freeze.

The news comes as Microsoft has been dealing with a string of security flaws found in its Internet Explorer browser during the past several weeks. Some researchers had begun recommending that people worried about on-line security stop using the IE browser altogether.

Microsoft recommends that Web surfers using Internet Explorer keep abreast of the latest security warnings, and go to the company's Protect Your PC site.

Mozilla developers said that future versions of the Firefox Web browser would have automatic update notifications that would make it easier to notify users about security fixes.

Firefox, Mozilla, and Opera are all awesome. With all of the 'plug-ins' for Firefox, it takes the cake in my opinion.

The funniest thing is that IE for the Mac is better than IE for Windows. Why you would use IE over Safari though is beyond me.

I don't know how well Advanced Browser would do compared to Internet Explorer in this category because it's basically the same engine.

Works fine on Mac. I use Safari, which is the best out there, and its even better than opera primarily because of the disability with history and bookmarks in Opera.

i don't get pop ups or anything, i have no firewall and i use IE....what the hell are all of you people talkin about....i haven't had one problem with IE....i'm gonna try these browsers though, but i am a happy camper with IE....works much better than the only other browser i've used....AOL's netscape shit.....oh man i wanna kill those programmers

How do you guys like the new Internet Explorer? Im using it right now and its kinda cool (I have the Windows Vista pack though, so its prolly a little cooler looking than yours).  But I must say, it doesnt come close to Opera...

I use IE and I dont see why I should change?

I have had this computer with IE for about 2 years now. I have been without any kind of firewall protection/virus scanner. And I have used up to about 3/4 of the harddrives space and it still runs just as fast as the day I got it. And I never get popups. Unless I search lyrics to songs. then I get one depending on the site.
