Deciding on a DSLR

Between the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000, which is better for both stills and HD video?
This is my first major camera purchase and I am in love with cinematography/ photography and so I want to get my facts straight for which would be ideal

I dont know too much about the photo capabilities of the D700, but I know that the 7D is still quite more advanced then the D700. I will let someone else tell you about the photo side of things, but the 7D takes beautiful pictures and I am very happy with mine. Do you own any lenses from previous cameras? Are you coming from a Nikon/Canon/etc.?

Can I get reasons? I have seen alot of video shot on the 7D and i'm impressed, I just want to know why I'd chose one over the other and such.

I'm coming from using a few Sony video camera's, such as the Nex-5 and ... an HD video camera which is quite a few years old.
I really have no experience in purchasing DSLRs and so I am looking for the info.
My cousins husband has told me that Nikon lenses are cheapers than the ones that Canon has, but I'm not sure if this is true as I know he is a Nikon die-hard.

Are you more interested in doing video? If you are, there's really no reason to buy a 7D. You're much better off spending your money on a T2i or 60D. But if photography is still a big focus for you, then the 7D is definitely the way to go.

definitely a 7d then. AF speed is good (not 1d caliber but still snappy), dual digic processors handle noise well, 8fps, and metal body.

7D is a better camera, but it also costs quite a bit more

the d 7000 has sensor problems at this time./thread.

nikon is behind in video slr's. one of the big let downs is the rolling shutter on nikons= 10 times worse than canon: not litterally but still not good.

not so much a sensor problem, it's just how the current cmos sensors work. it's more like a limitation

sorry, i just meant rolling shutter. i do believe that there are some issues regarding hot pixels on the D7000

yes there is hot pixel problem on a lot of the D7000s so buying one is a gamble right now until this issue is fixed.

and nikon has hard rolling shutter

They both have their issues. I like the 7D better, but some like the Nikon.

Both have great info on their cameras, although they do not really review the other cameras. Cool place to get some research though.

i believe they fixed that problem. or at least helped reduce the hot pixels by a lot http://nikonrumors.com/2010/12/21/nikon-d7000-firmware-update-1-01-is-out.aspx

Did you get the 500-1000 f/.08? ive heard its kinda blurry, shouldve gotten the 1000-2000 f/0.00006 kills it in terms of sharpness and speed

well the pentax shoots at like 25fps which is kinda weird..i mean why have 25fps when you can have 1 frame per 3 hours

That's an uninformed, ridiculous opinion.  It's worth it to buy a nikon in your opinion due to the lack of ease of use LOL?  Nikon has better lenses? LOL!

Canon and Nikon are on the same level for lens technology, Canon having the edge in telephoto.
