how do photos get in to magazines?

if i was to take a picture that i wanted to sell to/be in a magizine how would i go about doing?

Most skiing companies still only accept slides and occasionally negatives, I'm not 100% on if they accept digital files yet. I don't know why they wouldn't but... meh.

You just send it in and if it's of professional quality they might publish and give you a couple bucks.

All magazines (not just skiing) have photographers on staff that provide most of the content they need. Asides from them, they also have networks of other resources to get photos from. You should probably also keep in mind that a random photo might not be what the magazine might need at that point in time. Most photos are contextual and relate to a story in the magazine. If its just a random person doing something interesting.. where are they going to put it unless it relates to something?
