Getting into Boulder

So I really wanted to go to Boulder and even visited and loved the campus. but when I saw that you need to have 3 years of foreign language, i didn't even bother to apply, there was no way i was going to take another year of french. so now as i actually gets closer to graduation, i really think i made a mistake by not trying to get that one more year done and choosing U of U instead. So now im wondering is there anyway that if i don't like U of U that i could transfer to boulder, and some how get around the whole 3 foreign language credits thing? I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering, so its not like you really need to know another language to do that. please help.

Spark notes: is there anyway i can get around the 3 foreign language credit requirement to get into boulder?

Are you sure you're not looking at grad requirements for the program you're looking at? I doubt that all 40k students they have all took three years of a foreign language in high school. I haven't ever heard of a big school like that having such a specific entrance criteria. If it is though, I got nothing for ya.

ya i think it might be a grad requirement. but still...... i would really rather not take any more french =(

I didnt take 3 years of a language and i got in. its more of a grad requirement than anything else. dont worry about it.

ok but if its a grad requirement ill still need to take that extra year eventually right? or is it more like a "recommendation" (i.e. it says you need it but some how you still could graduate even if you don't take it)

they want your money....they will accept you. what they say they require and what they actually require are way different

You will be on the bubble. Apply to the business school, and if they do not accept you will automatically be deferred to Arts and Sciences, and then you can transfer to the B-School after your freshman year, which is easy.

you don't need 3 to get in, but you will need to take college level french 3 which i guarantee is more difficult than french 3 in hs. Most likely you will need to take french 2, struggle through that and then go for french 3. It really is a lot easier to take it though your hs in summer school, trust me plenty of friends in business struggling through Spanish 3 after staking 1 and 2 in freshman and sophomore year of hs.

its harder and harder every year. i applied in 2008 with a 3.7 gpa and got in, b-school here is very competitive but employers in colorado will hire leeds graduates more than any other bschool in colorado, or so ive heard

i didnt even know this. i only took 2 years of a language and got in with some scholarship money. apply anyways and see what happens

must have been, when i was there (2 yrs ago not even) it was always more out-of-state kids than in-state in my experience.

i'll be a freshman there next year. got in w/ 3 years of spanish, a 3.1, and 2110. if you really wanted to get in you'd have taken that french. still worth applying tho

I only got in with two years of a foreign language, and im currently a junior taking my third semester of Spanish to finally fulfill that stupid requirement. They will let ya in, its just a pain to complete it while your here.

after i saw that i sort of made up in my head all sorts of faults with it and stuff in my head. but now that i know i have friends going there and i kind of re-researched it i want to go there again. ill apply and see if i can struggle through a french class over the summer.

it wasn't really a joke I never realized this... . I go to school in Boulder and all the kids here think that CU and CSU as automatic if you live in Boulder or anywhere in Colorado if you have average GPA and SAT and just don't fuck around. So I always thought I'd just find the same kids here at Boulder at CU and CSU (I'm applying to CU next year).

I got in back in '07 and went there with two years of high school spanish. And it doesn't matter that you missed the deadline, if you are out of state and want to go and did okay in high school they will take you. they love out of state kids! well they love their money but same thing.

If youre really trying to shred go to Utah
