Hey ns, It seems i have a problem....

So i know there are alot of kids who come on here and bitch about depression, some cases serious while others are just rich white kids trying to portray a " hard " life.

So depression has kinda been on and off for me it comes and goes and has been worse and worse since around 2008. But ltely its been starting to hit me alot harder. First off ill intruduce myself. Im a sophomore at a private school which has around 100 kids per grade and is very boring and strict. I live in Cincinnati Ohio home to shitty sports, pissed off old people and terrible weather. My life seems to be pretty averge i have friends, a girlfriend and i play sports and ski. My grades are pretty good and im well off i guess. Which makes me wonder why i feel worthless all the time.

Lately ive noticed i feel so out of touch with the world because where i live. Maybe im not having as much fun because i dont goto a fun public school or whatever. But what has been depressing me lately is something else.

My bestfriend moved here two years ago from England and i hear about how much freedom they hae over there and how fun it is, it seems so exciting. I feel like where i ive nothing happens and there is just nothing here. My girlfriend moved here a year ago from Seattle and i hear about how great the mountains are and the lakes and the parties and the city itself. The northwest seems so cool they have so much it seems out there. And im stuck in ohio the rest of highschool and maybe other places arent so great but iwont know until i see for myself. I feel like highschoolers have so much more exciting or diffrent lives in places like Washington or California but here in Ohio everything is so old and depressing.

so you are 16, wait two more years and move out west or over seas. I lived in springboro OH, just 25 mins north of you, southern OH isnt that bad. Tough it out man, there is a lot of time in life to party.

I live in Ny, its not too great either. The skiing blows, schools pretty shitty, though i go to a public high school. I usually just hang out with friends when i have free time, basically when im not working. I just look forward to seeing my friends and smoking marijuana haha.

But i know i can have fun in college but We only get one Highschool expierience ever and i kinda wanted it to be good.. not so bland and depressing

I live in Maryland.  I'm well off, and I go to public school.  I have lots of friends and all that, but I think a lot of my friends are kinda douchy.  Maryland is full of lacrosse players, and kids who make fun of lacrosse players but still act like a lax bro.  I don't know very many dudes who don't own Sperry's or a ton of Polo shit (I'm the only one of my friends who doesn't own Sperry's or wear Nike or Polo everyday), and everybody in my school is super superficial.  People try to convince me to buy Sperry's, it's retarded.  Also, the skiing here sucks balls.

But I'll take what I get.  In two years I'll be able to go to anywhere I want for college as long as it's not too expensive.

Not gonna lie: Washington is the shit, and Ohio is most certainly not.

BUT you do have that hadid building in Cincinnati. That has to count for like... something...

Anyway, don't be a little bitch. You'll have decades to live and do where ever you please, and that really starts up in a couple years. It isn't the end of the world. Chin up and just go through it. Most kids in highschool are limited, regardless of where you live. Grass is always greener (but in this case, it is).

Meh yeah I guess Cincinnasti is pretty boring sometimes, but it's what you make it.

You're not alone with the way you feel. A lot of teenagers get the "my town is really boring" stir crazies every now and then, but I think it's mostly just the fact that it's hard to be completely free and independent in high school. You can't always do what you'd like to.

College will be better. Ever since my brother went to college, he's ALWAYS doing something social. ALWAYS. He was never really a huge socialite in high school and didn't do a whole lot, but now he's on the board for Pi Kappa Alpha and is always doing something.


College will be better. For now, maybe try doing different stuff every day. Go like "365 Things to Do in Cincinnati" on Facebook. TOOOONS of stuff in there.

Omaha nebraska here. Winters suck, cant ski without getting lucky with the weather, summers suck, cant skate except for in indoors. But i guess its okay overall. My family sucks bawls. (No details), i live in a good home. But i guess i feel weird because my parents try and make me hgappy with shit they buy me and then they go and argue right in front of me. Little story. My dad went to europe for the hell of it for a week with me and then stayed there for the rest of the month. No calling, well 2 skype calls but they were 2 minutes each. He stayed there and when he came back he said he went to "Warmer places" but he didnt state where, Then went off and told his friends that told me he went to fucking dubai. and worst of all he always complains about being broke. shits fucked up. i could go on for hours but i wont.

TL;DR: I know what you are feeling, vibes bro.

but be careful, i hear a lot of my friends say "omg i hate this town there is nothing to do!!!" and they blame all their problems on the the shitty town, when in reality, its their own fault they hate it because they are either bums, or they are just whiny bitches who think the town is responsible for them having a mediocre life. The only advice i can offer you is that you are indeed still young and you are starting to realize there is more to the world than the small community if front of you. It blows my mind to think that their is a good portion of north american children who just assume the rest of the worlds culture is like "theirs" and dont put any real thought into how different culture can vary location to location. At a basic scale, a small family living in china is going to have entirely different way of life and culture compared to a small family living in a suburb city in Canada/ or america. It is actually uncanny to think of how many different way there is to live life on this planet and have a chance to live any you choose basically. It may seem plain and characterless life at the moment, but the gates will be open for you to explore once you have your education needs taken care of. I am also in a similar situation to you and i constantly mull over why exactly i am in this world. Most of your known life you are taught that success means you grow up and acquire a mortgage and get a nice house in a quiet street in a suburban city and live the "american dream". Where is the substance in this "american dream"? Bob two houses down from you may come home with a porsche one day and you may think he is living it up but in my mind this is just a material good that can do nothing for his mundane life that he has been brainwashed from birth to "accept". Why do you need to own a house to be considered successful? The second you sign a mortgage you have committed to becoming stationary for a time with no ability to just "pack up" and move on to a new area. Chances are the first place you move will not be perfect for you, and you may never find a perfect place for yourself... but you can atleast live life to the fullest and not become part of the system of the american dream. Humans have never decided that settling in one place was a good idea, it just came to become in recent history where food storage/heat generation is possible. There is far more to the world than what you can see in front of you in the mid west united states and if you realize you do not have to live your life to what everyone else expects you may find happiness.


The only thing to be careful of in your situation is to not get blinded by disparity of your situation geographically and disregard the fact their very well could be another underlying issue that is making your mind wander and wane.

I live in Novascotia. My home hill (hour and a half away) is pretty good and put out a good park for what they have. East cost wheather sucks dick and its skiing on ice most the time. But i take lots of trips because my parents are kick ass and love skiing just as much as i do.

ya sure im one of those kids that lives in an upperclass neighborhood and go to ski camp everysummer. So most of the kids at my school are rich and kinda stuck up. Although there is a few kids who are kool and not to stuck up in drama or the new abrecombie shirt. So sher i wish that there where more kids in my school that aren't stuck up as much. Or there was more parties. Or I had a better home hill.

But im gratefull for my health and that im able to ski. Im gratefull for where I live and that I am able to live in a good area. So I wouldnt trade it for anything

I feel you bro. I live in Minnesota its pretty cool, love the atmosphere, and have the greatest friends I could ask for. Unfortunatley depression runs in my family and it seems to get the best of me sometimes...I dont want to talk to about my parents and get prescribed. But on topic, Weekends pertain to hanging out with friends and just chillin, occasionally parties and other exciting events. Otherwise its pretty good.

For example, i want to go somewhere with good skiing or a city or something different from where i live. This kid has plenty of time to get his grades up and study for the ACT/SAT.. he could EASILY get out west.. i knew I wanted to get outta ohio so I applied myself, got a 34 on the ACT and now im getting paid to go to school in a great program.. I fucking hate absolutely everything, and over the past 3-4 years, have become cynical, and just angry/depressed.

I start me weekends on wend, and drink myself into a drunken rage. People have learned not to fuck with me while im drinking because i generally try to start a fight when offended. This continues up till sat and i just drink my depression away, or pop pills just so i can feel a bit of happiness. Half my problem is that my friends all think its funny when im fucked up, so i enjoy them being happy, and im all the more willing to do it. I hate it. I hate drinking, i hate drugs. My last GF cheated on me, and most of the kids i hang out with are fakes. I dont have a home anymore as i got kicked out on my birthday for arguing with me dad. ( we both have anger problems ) My family is sick of me, dont talk to me much anymore, and after this semester I have nowhere to go. Sack up kid. As i began to realize today, everything has to be done by yourself. Create the parties, get the friends together etc. PM me if you want to talk more. I can go a lot deeper, and will try to help you as much as possible.

Damn man, I think we should be friends, just as I was looking at exchange programs. I live in northern BC and my hill blows so much dink, it's mostly grass and ice right now, I find a large reason I want to move is due to the ski hills on other places. Another huge part of the reason I also want to move is because I live in oil country, just douche bags with jacked up trucks and biggest city closest to me is like six hours away. The scenery is alright but it's like there's no class here. So I feel you man I want to move like crazy too, I recommend you do as 'm trying to do and try to take a six months exchange program for now.

theres your first problem. i find that in both highschool and college, the people that use drinking and parties as their main form of entertainment are usually boring people, and alot of them seem depressed.
its more like an alternative to having fun rather than going out and doing something active, or using your creativity to have fun.
after awhile people rely on that altered state of mind to be happy, and even then its just a false sense of happiness. but its easy and effortless so they do it more. and begin to hate their sober life, thus loosing interest in active, challenging, creative things.

so really, just go out and do something, ride a bike every day. i did that this fall when i hardly had anything to do. i searched around for the coolest route i could, and id ride it every day and time myself.

sometimes i mess with artsy stuff like jewelry, photography, building little things out of scraps, etc... one project can take up like 3 days and you get an awesome sense of achievement when your done.

go explore, find cool parts of your town, abandoned buildings, etc.. urban exploring is always awesome.
go skiing??

use drinking and parties as a last resort.

I live in the middle of Iowa, Ames Iowa to be exact. We have shitty cold weather and ice in the winter, and its hot as shit and humid in the summer. It pretty much rains all spring here.

As for what to do here? absolutely nothing except to go shoot shit, get drunk, and do something illegal.

I definitely don't live in a part of California that's seen as desirable, but it's a hell of a lot better than numerous other cities around the country. I hear people bit h about how everything sucks and there's nothing to do but I have Yosemite an hour away, along with great skiing. Bless me for being able to grow up in California, the greatest state in the U.S.

Stop craping on Cinci bro, the city is fine, just the weather sometimes blows. As for sports, Reds did pretty fucking good last year, and well the rest do blow ill give you that. Find some friends and there is just as much shit to do here then there is in Colorado, cept their skiing is a lot longer and better.

awesomeee thread. I've moved 8 times in my life...and I'm still 16. and what ive noticed throughout the years is everyone says their town is the worst. Even when i lived in Chicago the kids still thought the same. I recently lived down in connecticut where i had always thought "this is the most boring shitty town ever" and always had nothing to do but get drunk and smoke weed with my friends on the weekends. over the summer (im currently a junior) we moved to vermont due to lower taxes and instate for my sisters college as well as mine. i had always thought my boredom would just disappear by moving here. especially with 4 mountains within 30 minutes and the great college town of burlington. but after a few months of sitting on my ass i realized i was as bored as when i lived connectict.

point is apply yourself and make the best of it...that's what i learned anways. and always look forward to college!
