Best tips for sliding rails and boxes?

hey guys im gonna grow some balls 2moro and try to slide box and a rail, any tips?

Do it on a box and jump a 90 on and don't try to lean forward or back. Keep your weight even.

thanks dude +k, my friend whos pretty good told me to not think of the skis but just jump sideways and get your feet on and if you bail lean forward

Yeah a lot of people lean back when they first learn  rails but then they slip out and fall on the rail. Good luck.

Look at the end of the box, not your skis. This WILL stop your skis from slipping out underneath you. Keep flexing into your boots the whole box, and be sure you JUMP when you turn 90. I see so many kids get scared and try to do like a hockey stop onto a box. This will fuck up the lip, piss people off, lose speed, and in the end you won't make it. Also, check out the trick tip cult.

Try to visualize leaning so far forward (weight on your lead foot) that you're just about to fall. Trust me... you won't fall forward. I've helped lots of people learn to hit rails and it's incredible difficult to prevent them from falling backwards the first few times. It also helps to keep your feet farrrr apart once you're on the rail. You don't necessarily need to have them super wide as you leave the lip, but just be sure they wider while you're spinning the 90 and before you hit the rail. As others have already said, look towards the end of the rail and stay committed the whole time. The worst falls usually happen when you get scared and half-commit. Just be confident, go for it, and you'll have it in no time.

I'm sure by "worst falls come from half commiting" you mean nutting the entire rail. This happened to me on a box. Except instead of nutting, I did the splits. I never knew I was so flexible.

Because its kind of hard to find helpful people on the hills. Most of them aren't planning on helping some kid out with rails as rough as it is. Why not ask a freeskiing forum?

1-approach the rail/box straight on, shoudler squared to the box/rail, feet a lil wider than shoulder width apart, and look towards the end of the rail

2-pop off of the lip, wait for tails to clear the lip, turn your body 90 degrees (if you arent comfortable with turning 90 at first, try turning 45 then increasing the degree more each time)

3-once on the rail, keep your feet wide, (i was taught to use the gorilla stance, where you keep your knees bent a lot and keep your stance low) i like to keep a little more weight on my downhill foot - DO NOT lean back cause your feet will slide out from under you and you will eat some shit

4-keep lookin towards the end of the rail, once at the end, pop off, turn 90, stomp the landing, and then ride it out like a homie

go up to any one who is good enough to hit a rail or box and most of the time they will help you out. just be friendly and most of the time they'll do the same.

when your coming up to look at the end of the rail or box the whole time even when your like approaching it, trust your feet and use your peripherals to see your skis (sp?) getting more speed will help with rails especially

For me man, its always just been practice, do what everyone has said, just DON'T give up or get discouraged, you'll get it, I've been trying to get this damn c box at my hill and it is "literally" raping me in the butt. Good luck man, have confidence!

When you approach the rail, keep your feet shoulder with apart and keep the rail in-between your legs. When you get to the lip of the jump, pop and spin 90 degrees onto the rail. Keep your feet shoulder width and look at the end of the rail. Make sure to keep the rail underneath your feet to achieve perfect balance.
Another tip- relax. When you're tense you don't balance as well. So loosen your body just a tad.
When you finally learn rails, you will be amazed at how far you progress. It took me a year to learn rails and on my 4th hit, I learned switch outs. By the end of the day, I had 270.
Good luck and just keep practicing.
