Freestyle ski boots

why are we freestyle skiing on race ski boot designs?
i hate to make the comparison this way, but i guess its the only way.
imagine if aggressive rollerbladers  used race skates, or if downhill mountainbikers used no suspension 10 speeds. they just wouldnt.
so why are we continuing to accept boots that break legs, cause severe shin bang and prevent steeze?

boots are evolving and getting better.. look at the spk, full tilt, the volt, what ever weird boot rossignol made, dalbello, and the poc concept boot..there are ideas out there but yes i agree for the most part why

cause they attach us to skis? racers use full tilts, some freestyle boots have the same design as race boots. they all hold you into skis.

FT and all other are the raichelle design from 1970's

POC design was a rendering, not a real boot/prototype

so think about the technology of skis today compared to 1970, why dont we have current boots?

i agree but race/normal boots are soooo much more abundant all ready, and they are cheaper because of that, not many people take freestyle seriously enough to buy special boots for that, or they dont have the money, its just not as huge of a market as recriational ski boots market is

The most important function of a boot is how it fits your foot. This is job #1 of every boot designer- to come up with a boot that fits people. Two piece designs, three piece designs are all trying to do this. Boots fit feet, not skiing styles. So far, the only real elements that separate race boots from non-race boots are shock absorbing elements in the liner and shell. Sometimes you get geometry differences, but they are always going to be fairly similar because skiing is skiing. Boots are made for skiing, so they are designed a certain way. Comparing a DH bike to an XC bike isn't really like comparing boots to one another, but more akin to your ski selection.

I used to have the tecnica agent 90 and they were pretty baller. my only problem with race design boots are that they get shinbang more often.

not true. shin bang is caused by boots that don't (in some capacity) fit you correctly, not because they are stiff. Look at Jossi & Byron Wells and Mike Riddle. Riddle just won the Super Pipe World Champs on our Race Tec 130 boot.

dalbello krypton = raichele

nordica ace boot= raichele

all full tilts= raichele

this conversation is actually pretty good. i think the poc idea is good, along with the apex soft boot/ binding design. but when will there be a boot designed for jibbing. a boot suitable for flexure and  or suspension,

True, but the style of boot can certainly help and make things less painful. Certain boots, hate to say it but like the FT, are designed for people with chickenlegs. My Langebange race shells were not, and to get it so there was no room for lateral movement except for with the boot (and not within the liner, if I'm making sense) is to strap it down, to where backseat is the only option, causing shinbang.

all of the reasons you have listed are caused by boots not fitting, not because they are a race boot.

i understand what your saying, for the most part. ski boots are pretty close to the same. but have you tried on different styles of ski boots? such as rec, race, and freestyle boots? they have completely different feels. race boots have way more forward lean, skinnier, thinner liner, narrower toebed, and obviously stiffer. freestyle boots have a much wider toebed and much more cushy liners but not as much as rec boots. freestyle boots also have much less forward lean and most are softer than race boots.

yea not much is different but it helps a whole hell of a lot skiing the park all day in a freestyle boot than a race or rec boot.

actually the ace of spades boots is nothing like a raichele, progressive flex design, more upright stance as well, nordica completely designed this boot from the bottom up, an entirely new design, unlike full titls which r rachieles, and the spk is the old salomon ellipse boot. The krypton is similar to eht full tilt but not the same, enough with ur arguement, learn a little more first

But you just described a boot that doesn't fit you properly, not because it is a race design.

Also, people tend to think that a more upright boot is always better for freestyle when it only might be. It always depends on what geometry fits your subjective needs. Sometimes a more upright boot is better for you for park, sometimes more forward lean is better for you, and sometimes you have no requirements for either and you can go with which ever feels best.

The one thing that everyone on here can benefit from is shock absorption and that is why this feature is on freestyle oriented boots.

free ride boots and race boots are almost the same exact thing aside from the colors and the number of buckles in some cases but to be honest a race boot is better 1 because it comes up high on the leg and hugs the foot so you and the boot are one 2. raceboots are stiff and give tthe support you actually need for skiing faster into jumps than most people ski regularly 3. theyre stable you ee the way these guys race especially the super g guys takin those airplane turns at like 80 mph you kind of need that kind of boot for skiing as hard as free riders and racers alike. but most of all its just prefrence now i have a pair of rampages but im also in the market for the nordica speed machine boot simply cus its a fuckin sick boot.

the krypton is a re designed raichele aka the raichele made to be a more modern boot making it a vario flex boot and taking the horrible cable buckles out
the ace of spades same concept.
FT= a 30 year old boot with some cool colors on it and some really GAY looking designs too some of them are just plain gay they are the exact 30 year old raichele models that they bought off of dalbello. so if it really means that much to be in a "freestyle boot" to look sweet go for it but its all a matter of what boots can work for YOU it dosnt matter if its a krypton a spk or a nordica speedmachine

yep, oldest thread on NS, a good skiboot is a boot that fits good !

and i'll just throw it in here: the Nordica ace of spades is THE most comfortable skiboot i've ever worn !
im sorry for the shameless nordica dick riding, but i'm in love with my pair ! :)
