Broken collarbone questions

i broke me collarbone 5 days ago and thought it was doing wee till this morning when i was puting on my tshirt i heard a crack and got a reall bad pain in it. the doc said it was gona hurt and move around a lil (mines not completely broken through, just cracked halfway through and bent), but it i had to guess i hurt i more? or is this normal with them? how long till its not painfull and not moving around anymore? it feels like its as bad now, if not worse than day 1...

your good. if its not a complete break it will prolly make a noise. Mine cracked for the first 2 weeks of physical therapy.

I recommend buying button up shirts that you can just put over your the arm with the broken collar bone. Then you can move it the least amount.

but seriously. if you heard a crack i would probably have a doctor look at it again. if it looks different on the surface it could fuse back together incorrectly

and, how much can i safely move it? like i wasnt doing anything crazy, just straightening out my arm to get a shirt on. and how long should i stay in the damn sling?

Hey I broke my collarbone early this year at Killington, and it cracks and shit and hurts like a bitch every time you move it for like 2 weeks. I suggest lots of perkusets

ya i broke mine on saturday skiing,

your right these hurt like a fucking bitch. mines pretty severe and almost came out of the skin, i have bone fragments and misplaced bones and stuff. everytime i do anything the bones move, so i no how you feel. the only good thing is i have been on vicoden the whole time but with the changing of clothes or some quick jerking movement you definatley feel the bones moving around. sounds like yours is pretty minor so be thank full. you may want to go to the doc for the "crack" sound. Just follow your docs instructions and you should be fine. i no it hurts but i heard they heal super fast. The pain is normal though

sorry for the spelling,vicoden makes that really hard, hope this helps

my doc put me at 4 weeks with the shitty ass collarbone brace thing. and yeah collarbones hurt like a bitch for the first week, week and a half. Since yours isnt completely fractured I would guess the healing time will be shorter but every doc ive seen puts you at a stock 5 week recovery.

I broke mine 3 times in a 3 month period. 1st break was three places right next to my a/c joint, 5 weeks later it hadn't healed correctly and broke again, 4 weeks later landed on my shoulder and bent it. that only took about 3 to 4 weeks to completely heal.

My doctor told me nothing, gave me no painkillers and just said dont do anything too extreme for six weeks.

yeah it is one of the most painful things you can do.

I actually broke mine (severely, had to get surgery a couple weeks later), then had to fly from Salt Lake to Michigan later that SAME day. What a shitty plane ride....

Seriously? I've broken both of mine, and just found it to be uncomfortable for a while. I didn't even realize I had broken it the first time and went home and took a nap before going to the hospital.

what kind of fracture was yours? if it just sorta had a crack in it, i would imagine it would maybe not be too bad. when i did mine the two pieces separated and overlapped and one bone was like poking out into the skin, you could see the clear bump. the pain was so bad i physically could not let my arm hang by my side; i HAD to be holding if with my other arm.

all i know is it was 2000x less painful than both of my acl tears, and less than my spleen rupture too i'd say

ya mine to i have overlap and bone fragmernts and its almost compound. I think his must have been pretty minor to not feel. i started to feel it right after i slammed into the snow and heard the crack

Id see the doctor just in case. I borke mine last summer and it pops and cracks everytime i rotate my arm or do push ups. Although it never cracked while I was healing

yeah when I broke mine it broke in 2 places and it snapped so hard that the piece in the middle did a 180. and it overlapped. My collarbone is about a half an inch to an inch shorter than my other one. It was a horrible pain.

I've broke both my wrists, ankle and collar bone.

The worst was the collar bone because you always end up moving it some how and it sucks to laugh or sleep cause you are just never comfortable and you don't have a cast to keep it from moving...mine didn't feel better until about 2 weeks after being in a sling/figure 8 brace.

It snapped in half and the medial part was poking up at my skin. I agree with the pain when I put my arm down, but I just thought I pulled something (I had never broken anything before, didn't know what it felt like, plus I still had my shirt on so I didn't notice the bump under my skin) and kept it pretty immobile so it wouldn't hurt. When I got to the hospital, I took off my shirt and the doc was like ummm yeah you definitely broke your collar bone. After I got put in a sling I barely noticed any pain unless I tweaked my arm weird or tried to put on a t shirt. Second time was only a crack like 3/4 of the way through along with some minor rotator cuff damage so the pain from the break wasn't as bad. Maybe I have high tolerance for pain? I'll try to find the X-rays, but this was like 8 years ago.

ya imn not sure either i usually have a pretty high pain tolerance. All i know is this breaks been killing me.

I broke my collar bone when I was two. First broken bone, its still kinda sticks out.

Exactly. Thats always been my story. No matter what you move it hurts. At least an arm or wrist you can isolate.

if you didnt fully break it your good, but i broke mine 2 times with 4 seperate breaks across the bone, it still cracks, clicks, pops and snaps everytime i move it, dont fool around with it, i did and now im regreting it.
