Definitely hasn't lived up to the pre-season hype.

Last year was somewhat similar: it nuked early, then it stopped. January was incredibly warm and dry. But by March, it was nuking again. And then it stayed cold. And it kept snowing.

it wasn't the best season by any stretch, but the after-season skiing was close to legend. So many people were going to washington to ski well in to July and August, and I don't mean the usuals who might poach a rogue snowfield or glacier for a few turns.

Essentially, there is plenty of time left... But I did pick a good time to be hurt.

is slc area considered northwest? cuz i got more faceshots today than any other day of my life. not the best pow i've skied in, but skiing on hellbents vs public enemys made a huuuuuge difference in the pow skiing experience.

This was so weird for La Nina...

Pineapple express bombed Tahoe and Mammoth and Southern California super hard early season as if it wanted to be El Nino 98...

Then it calmed down, drifted more northernly and hit Oregon pretty good...

then it moved up, pounded washington.

Then came the rain

then came the sun.

And it hasnt changed for a month.

and it wont change for another 2 weeks.

It's true that January has been a bummer but I wouldn't say that the whole winter is gonna be a bust. We've been studying el nino/ la nina patterns in climatology and how they affect the northwest. January is typically a dry month but it should be picking up here in the near future. But it's weather, so you never really know. All we can do now is pray for pow!
