Just as noisy as any other lens I've used for film. Canon's auto focus just sucks for video. with nikons step forward in it hopefully soon dslr's with have pretty damn good autofocus.
And I just wasn't sure as the Tamron is loud as fuck, where as my Sigma 30 1.4 is somewhat quiet, and the Nikon 20mm 2.8 is nice and quiet, almost makes the audio useable ha.. Anyone have any experience throwing a shotgun mic on top? I feel like it would almost make it worse placing the mic directly over the focus ring.
this is a total guess, but id think the mic on top would be a little better, my guess would be the sound/vibrations are only magnified by the body, with the mic in there. if you get what i mean. at least the shotgun mic would put an inch or two between. but idk, thats just a thought, i havent tried it.
Ben, yeah it may be amplified, but I still think putting the mic directly over the focus ring would make it louder ha. I guess it depends on how the mic is designed to collect sound I suppose. I may just buy the Videomic and see whats up.
You know, your posts have been really disappointing lately. No one said anything about auto focusing, in fact, that exact question had already been raised, and refuted, but 2 or 3 posts up.
if you put a shotgun mic on your camera you should for sure not be able to hear your shitty focus ring because shot gun mics pick up noise in front of them... not under them
Just because its a shotgun doesnt mean it wont pick up sound from under them, it just picks up sound from farther away better than a non directional mic.
For DSLR lenses, sure zeiss is nice... but zeiss for modern 35 mm lenses isn't even zeiss glass. Zeiss (Germany) licenses Cosina (Japan) to make their lenses for 35mm cameras. They are still good glass, but you're going to achieve almost identical results for a whole lot less money with nikkor or canon L glass. It's honestly not worth it to buy Zeiss (Cosina) in my opinion.
You MIGHT notice a difference if you are pushing into the 20+ megapixels, which isn't applicable for video.
