On a more serious note, good choices. I do rather enjoy a quick ska song every once in a while. Less Than Jake is definitely up there, as well as Reel Big Fish and/or The Gorilla Biscuits.

I have sometimes been accused of being a music nazi and although I like a lot of other music, I also like the majority of those bands

but sublime is for sure more ska than punk and AFI definitely sucks the big one

mainstream. god, as such a self proclaimed expert you would know there's more than one branch of punk music, and that the first what 5 albums of afi is really qualifiable, and FOUND in the punk section everywhere. new afi, maybe a lot more goth rock or some shit. some of the songs posted are even ska.

all of the bands posted up there were prominent in the 90s/early2000s, as in doing good, and that doesn't make them mainstream or even mainstream in a negative way if that's how you want to look at them. not all of those bands were played on the RADIO. those bands were all important for that era and are extremely influencial or important in that time period and apart of a movement. it's not like he posted the downfall of punk here, aka simple plan and co. just because a band is POPULAR, DOESN'T mean it's BAD. bad music is bad music. i would in absoltely no way, call any of those bands POP, or pop punk.

if you want to use punk in a literal sense, then go back in time to the 70s. otherwise, then you should be more specific if you want to be critical.

i don't know what to say because there's so many bands out there and to like even post one for arguments sake is just up for discussion as to HOW good the band actually is. well, that's just personal taste. but i don't see good charlotte here so calm your panties.

as for debatebly ska; same argument. early ska sounds nothing like new ska. therefore, maybe less than jake isn't even ska? i'd have to say, sublime, punk music, trumpets, other elements. SKA.

i don't really see though, how if you're talking about this thread, how this is about what punk has become? imo, this is just mostly ska and skater punk, and to what was posted on the post above my reply, not pop punk. the decline of the punk was in the mid 2000s and caused by a lot of shit that turned into emo, and then screamo, and then moved into other disasters altering hardcore, and somehow adding fucking techno in the mix. punk maybe took a spill because it reached mainstream, but good old fashion punk is still around, it's just less prominent or even less popular. a lot of major bands died and that's just the cycle. and not all punk is about fucking anarchy and fucking the police and not getting a job. some people just wanna get drunk and smash things and cruise their skateboard.
my post was just to comment on a lot of the bullshit i read in the thread, which isn't in huge doses anyways.
anyways, the op seems to maybe have posted what punk had branched off to, as opposed to how it was selling out, which was basically, yours and other people's opinions. and if you don't care what people think then don't bother posted a one sided discussion. no one really wants to hear you talk to yourself, you can do that on twitter.
