Saving Files

So I started working on my chemistry ISU at school yesterday then sent it to my email so I could work on it at home. I worked on it last night for a few hours, clicked the save button instead of the save as button and now all my work is not there and it's due tomorrow. Does anyone know if the files are saved anywhere in the computer if i only clicked the save button instead of the save as?
Please help :(

when you hit save, doesn't it just use whatever the file name is and overwrite it?

Mac or PC? Usually a window like the save-as window comes up, but it's probably saved somewhere like My Documents if it's a PC...or something similar if it's a Mac.

Do you remember the name of the file when it was in your email ? And have you closed your computer since ?

Cause usually these files are saved in Temporary-Files or something like this. And if you remember a bit of the name of the file, there's a place where you can search for documents

Hey Blackall, what OS are you using?  There are some things you can try, specifically on Windows 7 if you know where the files are.

If you hit save, and it didn't prompt you to save it to a location, it is likely that it did save what you were doing.

First, open up word or whatever app you were using and see if it is listed in recent files anywhere.

If it is, it should open up the saved version of it.

If you have a mac you can open up finder and type in .doc (assuming its a doc) into the search and sort it by date. That will show you any files that were recently worked on and it could have some crazy name if it was saved into your temporary files.

I don't know with a pc... but i imagine it has a similar search.

If you can find the file, there is a way you can look at previous saves with Windows 7.  Really helpful.

Sort your documents by last accessed? If you click saved. It must have gone somewhere. I didn't catch what OS you are using, but check your downloads folder if you are running on Windows 7.
