Skiing with Pads

So, outside of the generic "pads/protection is for pussies" response, who actually skis with pads? I fell on my back pretty hard today, and I'm worried that I may have done some real damage to it.

So, who skis with them or has ever tried ones like this:

Do they restrict your movement at all? Are they worth it?

i started messing with those cheap neo ones from walmart or where ever.

WELL worth the price is you have goofy knees, just enough stability to not really notice its their either. But when i go to bed at night after a day skiing, my knee pain was drastically reduced.

At the very least wear one of these, otherwise you really are taking unnecessary risks.

i only ski with a helmet, but sometimes after crashing on rails i think about wearing my football girdle which has pads on the hips and tail bone, but ive never considered wearing a back pad

there seems to be some pros that wear them like Jon, i for one don't but thats my own choosing, wateva feels best fr you

my crash pads are inline hockey pads, basically spandex with thin pads...just enough to keep my ass/hips from turning purple when slamming. Usually around $30.

I would think a football girdle would work, as long as its not too obnxious under your pants.

Helmet, thumb braces, crash pads

Your an idiot if you ski park and don't wear a helmet.

I hurt my thumbs everytime I go skiing if I don't wear the braces.  I don't know why but it just happens to me.  Sometimes I hurt them even with the braces on, but very very rarely.  Just didn't feel like dealing with thumb injuries every day so I wear them every time.  People ask me about them all the time, its kind of annoying but I just say either I hurt my thumb or if its someone I know I'll explain it.

Crash pads almost always.  They're warm and they helped when I was learning rails.  They protect you from banging your hip hard and probably your tailbone a little bit.  I can ski without them but I'd rather have them on.

I don't wear a back protector because I've never really hurt my back too bad (knock on wood) but if I ever did I would definitly start wearing one,

Anyone who calls someone a pussy for wearing pads is not worth my skiing time.

I wear a helmet and Impact Shorts.  The impact shorts help a ton for hips/butt and the helmet has saved me from concussions before.

Having a stong back, core, shoulders, knees, etc is a great way to prevent injury as well.

I ALWAYS wear a back protector, much more often than I wear a helmet. Everybody should, your back gets hurt so much faster than your head.

i got one. i don't even realize i have it on my back. doesn't bother me at all and it gives me a ''safe'' feeling. u should try one.

I've got some pads from Demon that I am a big fan of. I used to wear a POC spine protector and some Crash Pad's shorts, but the gear that I recently got from Demon is far more comfortable than either of those.

Helmet. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. ALWAYS.

I wear Pro-Tec impact shorts, and theyre FANTASTIC. I don't even know they're there most of the time.

A season or two ago, I fell on my right hip SUPER hard, and bruised it like a bitch. Every day I skied after that day, I seemed to wash out/slam on that hip. It hurt for the entire season and made the whole season really uncomfortable. I bought crash pads after that, and they've saved me numerous times.

Last weekend I took a really bad digger on a sticky C-rail, and bruised my hip really badly. Had I not had them on, I'd be in much worse shape.

When I was racing I used to have to wear a back protector and a mouth guard. The mouth guard annoyed me but the back protector wasn't bad and i still wear it when I'm trying bigger inverts.
