I was going to shoot one for a few months until I realized the cheapest film I can get for it is $10 a sheet for color. If you're shooting black and white, it'll be considerably cheaper.
I would say unless you know exactly what you're doing (not saying that you don't), and you have some really solid ideas for what you want to shoot, I'd stay away from it. I'm shooting 4x5 now instead and it's awesome. Maybe check out a 4x5 before an 8x10 if you haven't already.
8x10 is serious business. But props to you if you decide to shoot it. Post some shots up afterwards!! It makes some absolutely beautiful prints, so it definitely has its advantages.
if you just want to try one relatively inexpensive try to find a pinhole version. i've used both (bellows and pinhole) and the pinhole gives you something of an idea of what you're dealing with. I think i saw some on B&H a while back. (don't hold me to that)
