Spoiled kids and their nice cars

so i have a friend who is the probably the biggest stoner i know, but he's also the most chill kid i know. anyway, his parents own a hotel chain and they spoil him and his brother so much. during high school he went through a pimped out golf, then an audi s4, then a benz ml 500 (smaller suv), then an escalade, and now has a bmw 325 xi. i mean, shit... he doesn't really even appreciate them though cause he knows if he gets sick of one car he can just ask for another. and then there's some other kid i've seen numerous times at cu driving around his $100,000 benz g55 amg. just makes me sick. anyone else care to rant?

hey, put yourslef in his shoes... if you knew your parents would buy you that shit you would do it also... its the way he was raised. he is used to getting things that he wants and maybe to you it seems rude but to him it seems normal to ask for expensive new things. but that doesn't make him a douche. if his parents make good money and wanna spend on their son, then its their perogative. i def drive a nice ass car, way too nice for some punk ass 21 year old, but i am grateful for it and thankful that my parents can afford it. but i was raised getting a lot of nice shit and though it may seem wrong, i do ask for new shit all the time. thats the way life goes. some ppl are rich, some aren't.

Yeah, there are a lot of people that go through really expensive cars fast at my school. I'd rather save money and go ski in europe or something. The most I want to spend on a car is $30,000.

you live in boulder, what do you expect with all the yuppies there? i bought a pair of skis off some kid in the dorms at CU a couple years ago and he's all in the parking lot pointing to the cars his friends and him drive to the mountains and it's like the lineup of 2002 luxury SUV's.
''oh yeah some days we take the Lexus, and other days we take the Benz, and whenever that guy goes we take his range rover, and that's my beamer right there''
fucking yuppies, that's why i went to CSU.
my friend's dad did just buy him a new toyota matrix, but that's no $50k load by any means. i'll just keep racking up miles on my 92 civic thank you very much.

all my friends had cars before they got their permits. Im not talking about old fords and hondas. I was gonna get my moms escalade, but i ended up with a F150, used, so i guess im quite fortunate anyways.

I hear you lizzie. I grew up going to a private school that my mom teaches at, and the rich kids were a dime a dozen. As I think Lizzie agrees, I could care less if people are well off. Generally they have worked hard to get where they are. It is when they a) flaunt is unnecessarily or b) don't appreciate what they have or c) assume that is the way life should be. I had five cars in high school, just like this kid, except mine consisted of an 83 dodge ram van, an 83 subaru, an 86 Taurus, an 86 civic, an 85 Camry and then when they all died after a few months my mom gave up and got me a reliable 94 Accord.
'can you read what that says?'

'yes, that's right. now how would that appear in a phone book?'
'simma, donna?'

Lizzie - Dont you drive like a brand new WRX? Im assuming your parents bought that for you, Im not saying thats spoiled but thats alot more than some kids have and it doesnt sound like you appreciate it cause you are whining how other kids have nicer cars.

I drove a 92 corolla for two years and recently upon being giving a full college scholarship, I was suprised with an 02 330i beamer. I mean it's cool having a new car, and it's really fun to drive, but sometimes i feel like a d-bag having it around work or school. In the end, I think that people don't resent me because I dont flaunt it, and because I dont brag. In the end, you cant be mad at the person for somethign they probably didnt control, unless they are stuck up or an ass about it.

that is pretty goofy. but i am not so worried about it with cars, but when it comes to ski shit, it sorta bothers me. The kids like myself and prolly many of you all destroy your equipment after skiing about 100 days each year. i can't afford new shit each year, and yet these little spoiled jerks get the brand new shit b/c they realize its kool. Like, some kid in indiana was gonna buy the MSPs and Seth Pistols (both decently fat skis which would be better for pow) ... i mean, why would u want them if u can barely ski, and don't have powder. So these kids are getting all the new stuff just b/c its kool, and i have to ride busted stuff. oh well, atleast u can tell em to buy sumthin, then buy it from them barely used for like 1/2 price.

i can't imagine what the fucking aspen HS parking lot looks like. i went to middle school there, and i found out that one of the girls in my class (the daughter of the owner of the high alpine restaurant for those of you familiar with snowmass) got a brand new vette for her 16th birthday and was pissed because it wasn't the color she wanted

Why would you care? If you're dissastisfied with life, why don't you do something to change it? I broke my skis mid season and went out and bought brand new ones because I worked my ass off all summer to get money so that I could do shit like that.
Granted, I have a really good job paywise, but at 16, I also work more hours in a week than most of your parents do. Sure, there are lots of punk asses rolling in their nice cars, but so what? One day, I'm gonna be rich too. Until then, I'll be quite happy borrowing my parents' cars because
A: they pay my insurance, B: unless I have to have gas to get where I'm going and back, I don't have to pay for it, and C: Before you get all pissy because I roll my parents' wheels for free, I never got an allowance when I was young, andI have a list of chores longer than P. Diddy's rap sheet.

i'm definately not dissatissfied with my life. just pointing out the facts and getting it off my chest. if anything, it's kind of sad for those kids that are so spoiled because the real world won't be very much fun for them to try and continue living in the manner with which they've become accustomed. i never said there was anything wrong with borrowing a parent's car. as long as you know that it's not 'yours' but yours to borrow. that's how it was for me at 16, too. i think my parents did a good job weaning me into reality and making me work for the things i wanted, like making me pay off trips to egypt and austraila in high school. not saying that there's a right or wrong way. that's just how it was for me.

My friend matt who is 17 drives a 2003 jeep rubicon with a 3 inch raise 33 inch tires. The engine is all moded so its burly. And he has a 5000$ stereo system. His car before this one when he was 16 was a escalade on 24s, with a bad ass sound system and all kind of electronics in it.

I hear you lizzie. There are a lot of kids like that who have absolutely no idea what the real world will be like. I find it interesting. In my experience, there are 2 extremely broad types of kids who fall into this category.
A: The kids who get everything they want, and suddenly hit the real world and have no idea what hit them.
B: The type of kids who are sheltered from EVERYTHING, treated like 12 year olds for their entire childhood, and then hit the real world and self destruct. A lot of the kids I know are like this.
I know a girl (luckily don't have to associate with her extensively) who is 16, doesn't even have her permit, has little or no idea what sex is, and doesn't shave her legs. What happens to her when she hits the real world?
On the other hand, I also know kids who get everything they want, have filthy rich parents, and generally have the life that everybody wants. When they hit the 'real world' they came very close to self destructing as well. Now, they've learned to adjust to the life that many of us already live and they do quite well for themselves. Weird huh?

My big problem with it is that the kids get their nice expensive cars from daddy, and aren't protective enough to care about what happens to them. After all, they didn't pay for them. So they go out and street race, and drive like total idiots, and run into people, becase they aren't careful. Daddy will buy them a new one anyways. Happens all the time here, and I knew a couple of people who were killed because of it.

People who get these nice cars don't appreciate them as much or enjoy them like someone who puts their blood sweat and tears into their car.
I drive a 92 Ford Taurus SHO. I work on the car every day almost to keep it in tip top shape. Sure it only has 106k miles on it, but I'm aiming to make it run like it has 10 miles on it. The motor is spotless. I'm replacing everything on the car one by one, bushing by bushing, part by part. On the other hand. My friend Steven has an 03 Lancer Evolution8. He got the car with money he got from his uncle. He doesn't take care of it. It is barely washed. All he does is race around in it trying to prove what a big bad guy he is with his 271hp AWD turbo car. He is always complaining about his car. How he gets bad gas milage, when something breaks he has to bring it to the dealer to get it fixed. His turbo is failing on him (makes a rattling noise when it spools) I also have never seen him or heard of him going out and actually enjoying the damn car, hes always trying to prove something. While when I get my car running perfect I swear going out for a ride and opening the car up and hearing the secondary intakes scream at 3750rpm compares to a fresh powder day in January.
People who get things handed to them on a platter don't learn to appreciate these things and always want more. People who work for things are always better off in the long run.
Don't even let it bother you.
-Andy
