Pow ski sizing

so are you supposed to get pow skis that are longer than your park ski? (i know i pow ski is wider, but im not sure if they should be longer too?) if you are skiing through trees and stuff isnt it smart to have a shorter ski??

basically im wondering: if i ski a 180 park ski, what size pow ski should i get?

How tall are you? Rockered pow skis?

It's personal preference. I ski 185 park skis and 194 ish pow skis. I like my pow skis longer for more stability, but some people like them the same sizes.

In the future, this is more of a gear talk thread but don't sweat it.

It would help if we knew you height/weight/age/ability and which pair of skis you were looking to buy.

In general, if you are getting a rockered powder ski you want it to be longer. That isn't necessarily the case with non-rockered skis. Personally, I prefer longer powder skis but everyone has different style so give us a bit more info and we can help give an answer more catered specifically to your needs.

I'm 5'6" and ski 169 park skis and 188 powder skis (S7s).

There are so many variables when deciding what's best for you though so more info is essential: height, ski ability, type of terrain you'll mostly be skiing and how you ski it, whether the ski is rockered or not etc.

I was sceptical at first about getting the 188s over the 176s but I am so glad I did because I feel like i get best of both worlds - the rocker makes them nimble enough in the trees for me but the extra length gives me more stability on landings and at speed.

The best advice I can give to consider all the variables and which are the most important to you and then just go and have a decent chat with a ski shop you trust. Ideally demo some different designs at different lengths on the terrain you want to be skiing and see what you're most comfortable with.

if the skis are rockered, don't be scared of picking 1 size bigger ....

i have my regular cambered pow skis till my forehead, my rockered pow skis are about as tall as me and my park ski reach to my nose ...

just to give you an idea....

the reason why rockered ski can go bigger is because they only have a small part under the ski that actually makes contact with the underground, so on groomers they ski very short while if you ski deep powder the full ski will make contact and allow you to float through anything :)
