Yeah, not Call of Duty Black Ops (which would be the 7th game in the series) but Call of Duty 8... just got confirmed by Activision for a late 2011 release:


Activision executives confirm new first-person installment in series will arrive in latter half of next year; no word on developer.

"Today, Activision Blizzard issued a better-than-expected earnings report in which it announced a $51 million quarterly profit. In a conference call with analysts afterwards, executives revealed further details on the publisher's future plans.

Call of Duty will see a new installment in the second half of 2011.

One detail that was revealed was that the Call of Duty series will once again have a fresh first-person installment late next year. 'We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011,' Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said. This sentiment was later echoed by Activision COO Thomas Tippl, who said that 'Next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter.'

The executives did not name the game or which studio was developing it. A likely suspect is Modern Warfare 3, which court documents identified as being in development at Infinity Ward as of May. That same month, Activision said the studio, which had lost over 35 members following the firing of its founders in March, continued to work on its 'next big project.'

A second Call of Duty is also in the works from newly formed studio Sledgehammer Games. Though Activision has said this title would take the Call of Duty series into the action-adventure genre, third-person, a May job listing indicated it would also be a first-person shooter. Activision has not said when the Sledgehammer title will be released, but said it was not the unnamed COD project slated for next year--presumably Modern Warfare 3."


Anyone else seeing this series becoming a FPS Madden or Tony Hawk?

they have only been putting out a call of duty now every year... so no suprise. and they have recently been alternating with infinity ward

I kind've wish infinity ward and treyarch weren't linked to activision.
The reason mw2 had so many glitches is because they have no time to time to properly finish the game. Activision makes them rush to finish their game at a specific time.

CoD2 fucking rocked. Back in the day of FPS when it was strictly skill with the gun...and you ran faster with a knife...there were no bull shit kill streaks.

also the maps...like Carentan which they remade and called it Chinatown for cod4...

wasn't wastelands from MW2 made from a map in CoD2 as well? If I remember right it sucked in CoD2 and still sucked in MW2 hahaha.

It was a perfectly balanced game, no overpowered kill streaks.
In my opinion killstreaks ruin the game..
Killstreaks are basically rewards for campers.
In mw2, I usually spend my time in barebones where I don't have to endure over powered killstreaks and campers.

above is why W@W blows. its a sick joke at how poorly done the game was.

on a side note talk about bad online... i would much rather take a OMA, or "quickscope" over a mp40 double clip juggy hip fire..... (which everyone used)

MW2 is a good game, just play gamebattles if you dont want to deal with the bullshit. I have said it hundreds of times, play GB face other serious gamers if you care that much about all the bullshit (no matter the game your never going to avoid it)

you think that remote controlled explosive car wont be used by scavenger campers who chill in corners? or that remote controlled missile? believe me treyarchs online gameplay is far worse compared to IF. i say wait it out till MW3

Love the modern wayfares compared to any other fps. Yea maybe cod2 was great but things are changing. The game is changing. If you don't like MW2 or 3 then go play cod2. Don't just sit here and bitch. No one cares. The game is changing and you can choose to like it and play it or not. I personally love the Modern warfares. and yea the killstreaks are a different type of skill but it's fun to have new things and be able to adapt to new features the game has. I preordered black ops and feel like I'm not going to like it though.

Yeah, that's actually what I thought after watching that. I don't think there is anything broken about W@W from that vid. Quick sniping is a part of nearly all FPS-s and that guy was just really good. Now if you showed a video of someone with Juggs, MP40, double clips, hip firing, then you might of had a case.

the whole time i played the game, prolly a day and half gameplay total before i got fed up, i never used the mp40. i dont see the fun in using such a bullshit gun, i prefer a challenge, that vid u saw was my friend and i trading off, i mean thats nothin special, jus funny how by taking off the scope attachment made no scoping eassy. i use the m1a1 carbine of the thompson, but i mean eff that game.. i usally jus played cod4 (which is still the best online fps ever made) claim.

never owned a cod game and never plan to, just recycled garbage.

last one i ever played was 4 at my buddies house, i think it was the modern warfare one and that felt like it was only 2 years ago, god dam time flies

medal of honor already was that. They were THE first person shooter. Some of my favorite games too. Allied Assault was an incredible game and I still rank it above any cod, except may cod2. Inevitably the games will start getting worse and worse because they know people will buy them, then some other developer will come in, and take the domination away. It's exactly what call of duty did to medal of honor.

But I gotta say, the first rainbow six was easily one of the best, and most frustrating games I've played in my life. I remember spending days with one of my buddies carefully plotting out and planning missions, then having 1 guy be slightly out of position, getting shot, and failing 1000 times while trying to figure out what happened.

WHEN RSV came out it was a GREAT game. I can't play it anymore though, it just doesn't look good and it is way too hard to play. Plus no one is on anymore.
