Are there any runners on here? If so how far do you run each time you run? I just started because soccer is over and i'm gonna run to stay in shape

so not true.  I do both soccer and XC.  And i know a couple kids from other schools who do both as well. 

And you should vary your exercises.  you can have days where you run 5 miles at a conversation pace, or days where you're working your ass off doing hill repeats.  And it all kinda depends on what you want to accomplish.

i run XC, indoor track, and outdoor track. during the base building for XC, avg about 75-80 miles per week. not that great of a 5k runner, but a decent miler.

I used to run, and I was pretty good but I hated it so I stopped. The only way I will run again is if my life is in peril or I am playing fun sports. Seriously though, running in trails makes it so much better.

i run xc and track

once xc is over this year im gonna start barefooting exclusively
shoes kinda mess up my knees, like right now my knee hurts pretty bad

In grade 6, I was a really determined runner, I could run 10k in 40mins (decent for 6th grade I guess). I would run 8k like 3 times a week, then I got osgood schlatter and I couldn't do shit for 2 years, and now, I just don't find running very fun. The only find that's rewarding about it is finishing the run, not really anything in between that imo.

we did repeat miles today in XC like 3 of em
average like 5:45 (claim)

5k time like 19:00
average like 6 miles a day

kid on my team 5k time 16:00 beast
average like 9 miles a day

i run a 5k+ every now and then, sometimes i just get in the mood to run. most of the time i jog 1.5 miles or so, go lift, then jog 1.5 more

I'm 100% with you on this.  I've been trying to run barefoot as much as possible.  It's soo much better on your knees and strengthens your ankles so don't roll them as easily.  I would say look into Vibram shoes, i'm guessing you know the company.  I've been using those some and they're awsome.

yeah i know about them, i dunno, i have pretty wide feet, i guess i havent really looked into vibrams too much, but i get the feeling theyre kinda narrow

i can run for miles barefoot on the road though, i dunno it doesnt hurt my feet

id like to run trails and stuff barefoot more though...

Hate to argue bro.  but the kid he is talking about is a fucking amazing runner.  the kid broke a course record yesterday on a course that is 50% up hill and 50% down hill, and he was jogging (no lie, the kid wasn't tired)  and then today he ran a time trial on 1.5 mile course and broke it the first time by 3 seconds, and then re-ran the 1.5 mile and missed the record again by about 5 or 6 seconds.  and he is a sophomore.

I started running this year for xc. I'm not that good, but I like to run at least like 3 or more miles each time I run. I have no extra time though cause XC for me is 6 days a week. It sucks so bad.

1. The course was 50 % uphill?
2. He broke a course record by jogging? That must mean the competition is pretty damn shitty

yeh.  well the course is stupid as hell.  maybe teh course is 40% hill.  but it's still ridiculous.  and yeah he wasn't working at all.  and i don't know his time, it's not online yet.  yes we are like a b school. but this kid is an amazing runner.  i'm not arguing that he is the best runner ever.  but as a sophomore, and for being his first year of running XC he's amazing.  I'm not gonna argue that the competition is good, by any means, but that doesn't take anything away from his running ability.

I don't know about your school but they physically do not let you do both and they go on at the same time so it's literally impossible to do both

i fucking hate running. i only do it because it's part of the sports i play but i would rather do 1000 other things to get exercise than just going out for a run and hurting my feet

Thats not that great. To play soccer at my school you have to run 2 miles in 10 minutes. Most people finish around 9

I usually run anywhere from 2-4 miles, depending on the day of the week, probably run close to 10 miles a week

Im tweakin its 12 minutes. For some reason i was thinking it was 10 but then i realized that was outrageous. Most people get 11 not 9. Damn thats sick if that kid can actually do that

i get shin splints. it's just a nerve from the arch of your foot up through your leg. you need better arch support and might have flat feet. that's what my physio said, and i got some insoles for my shoes and i don't have that problem anymore. it comes back sometimes when i wear flat shoes constantly though. fucking painful.

i get shin splints sometimes, especially when i get lazy and run slow haha

thers a bunch of excercises that strengthen the shins too, id look into that

im XC captain at my school, which is like 200 kids, so the competition aint so bad. I run 4 days/school week, work out tuesdays before meets, and occasionally on saturday or sunday ill lift or run. It's fun to fuck around with kids and its nice to get a good workout after a gay day of school. We only put in like 4 miles/day on average, pretty easy, but we do a lot of tempo runs and intervals, therefore the miles don't add up too high. Just waiting until XC is over, cause then its SKI SEASON!!!!

During the season i'll run like 2-3 days a week. Feels good to stay in shape, sweat, get the blood pumpin, all that good stuff.

where do you live? i guess we're just amateurs over here in boise. he won gatorade athlete of the year though.. not for 2010.. either 08 or 09? can't remember. maybe i got the time wrong.. but he is good. but apparently so is everyone else! i hate long distance running. i've never been able to get into the groove or whatever... i was a hurdler and sprinter. HATE HATE HATE xc type running, literally the biggest pussy when it comes to that.

so props to all you xc runners, cause that shit is HARD.
