The Deli Man’s Tale
Behind the counter at the local town deli,
stands a man with a smile as big as his belly.
If you ask him his name, he’ll tell you “I’m Tommy
people come to my shop to eat my salami.
It’s long and its fresh and it’s always delicious,
and I assure the sauce is very nutritious.”
If you’re new to his shop, he’ll tell you a tale
Of his long lost love, an attractive female.
And how she inspired his greatest creation-
The salami that is cherished by all of the nation.
It all began many years ago
His shop was brand new, it shone with a glow,
He worked day and night to become the best ,
A deli man better than all of the rest,
His work left him with little time for love,
Romance was something he could only dream of.
Then one day as he was sorting his meat,
A girl walked inside, and pulled up a seat,
He looked up at the girl sitting in his shop,
Struck with awe, he felt his jaw drop.
The girl was beautiful, truly a goddess,
When she asked him the specials he was shy and modest.
Day after day, she returned to his deli,
He made sure the shop was kept clean and not smelly,
One day, she challenged him to a noble endeavor,
“Serve me the best meat and I’ll love you forever.”
He accepted the challenge with a smile and a wink,
But at the same time, he didn’t know what to think,
Each day she came and tried a new treat,
But claimed he could still make a better meat,
He was all out of options, no where to turn,
He knew a new recipe was what he had to learn.
After days of hard work, it was finally perfected,
His most excellent dish been fully erected,
She entered the shop full of anticipation,
She opened wide for his tasty sensation,
Tommy was nervous, down his spine went a shiver,
But she assured him with a smile he was a most generousgiver.
The flavor was complex, quite like origami,
“What do you call it she said?” He answered “Tommy’s Salami.”
He had done it - her heart seemed to be won
The smile on his face could not be undone.
His salami was perfect, nothing could go wrong,
But his lucky streak would not last very long.
The next week he arrived at his store,
Only to find a note on the door,
It was from his lover, but the message made him despair,
It said she had left him, for a Greek with good hair.
The Greek’s kielbasa sausage was the biggest in town,
He bragged of 9 inches, truly world-renowned.
Though Tommy was sad, he worked ten times harder,
He began preparing meats with a newfound ardor,
And slowly but surely his business gained ground,
Quickly becoming the best food around,
From everywhere customers came to eat,
Even the Greek with good hair had to admit defeat
Tommy stood alone, the sole victor
The Greek had lost the girl because it turns out he’dtricked her-
His sausage was filled with a nasty disease,
To say the least, the FDA was not pleased.
So Tommy was not in the least surprised,
When the girl came running back with tears in her eyes,
“Please take me back, I was wrong, just forgive me”
He denied her request, for he did not agree
He shooed her outsideand sat down in his seat,
He knew now the girl had only loved him for his meat.
He sat on the couch, took a rip from his bong
And turned his great story into a poem, a song.
so yeah, thats it
