Anyone watching the new 30 for 30? It's about a guy named Terry Fox who had a cancerous tumor in his leg, leading to the amputation of that leg. He decides to run across canada to raise money for cancer — which is very hard with one real leg and a synthetic one— and has to stop because his cancer starts to come back. Even though he's sick as a dog, he keeps running occasionally and ultimately ends up dying because of the cancer. It's a sad story, but a great one. It's directed by Steve Nash (Yes, the NBA player who is also canadian, like Fox) and it's also his first film. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's worth watching.

I've known who he was for awhile but i've never watched or read anything in depth about him like this before. I was just giving a summary of the movie for anyone who doesn't know about it, so chill out

when i moved from canada to the usa in grade school, i was so shocked that nobody knew who terry fox was. I was equally shocked when I saw espn picked him to do a special on, since Americans literally know nothing about canada

my middle school had the terry fox fun every year, 120 kids or something run or walk 5 miles and get pledges. pretty lame idea of fund raising if you ask me, but i guess i get to say ive raised money for the cause which is a good feeling. RIP

Usually a countries greatest hero did something for the country. He raised so much money and thats amazing like he's a hero but they still haven't found a cure for cancer...

You are pretty ignant man. There has been huge progress towards finding a cure since the 80s and that is in part to terry fox. He has helped far more people than any founding father that you may consider to be Americas greatest American.

I have nothing against Terry Fox i think what he did was amazing, that's why i posted this because it was inspiring. I just thought it was weird that canadians considered him their biggest hero because most countries think of their founding fathers, presidents, and people like that to be their greatest heros.

the money raised for cancer went towards increasing the rate of lives saved of people that have cancer. while we may not have a true cure yet, it certainly helped and this research could just be the thing that saved my mothers life. it still really helped.

I agree with you and i admit I was in the wrong. I just said some of that stuff just cause i was annoyed that people were like "How do you not know who Terry Fox is?". I admit a lot of Americans are ignorant but thats because at school all they teach us is about ourselves, how the founding fathers formed america, how we fought in different wars. We never learn other peoples perspectives or enough about other countries. I guess we're just deprived. But im sorry for some of those posts because I do believe Terry Fox did amazing things that make him worthy of being Canada's greatest hero. He would probably be the US's too, i'm sure it would seem different to me if he was American.

I never once said we had it hard, I said we were deprived. I meant just learning wise because they make it seem like everything is about us. I'm not complaining about the USA at all because frankly I'd rather live here than anywhere else in the world.

It is true from my personal experience talking to Americans that I have met, you guys are a lot less educated about other countries then Canada.

I used to cry every year when we watched the terry fox movie in school. Terry Fox is one of Canada's greatest heros and definitely one of mine. I feel like there is something about what he did that everyone can relate to, making him super accessible. And yes, in Canada we take him seriously, every elementary and high school that I know of participates in the Marathon of Hope annually.

terry fox is to canada like... well someone really famous in the states is to the states. and i have yet to hear the end of it. in fact, my school is doing a terry fox run / fundraiser this thursday. i dont get whats so great about terry fox. like talk about something important for a change instead. imho.

I go to University where he did /claim. Not Canada's GREATEST hero, but still an absolutely amazing and inspiring dude. I don't think I could even run across my city with two fucking legs, mad respect for the guy, RIP
