avid's a huge industry standard editing hardware/software but there are a lot of different versions, from home ones (which i would guess AMC is) to the huge systems that hotshot hollywood editors use. so what im saying is avid is a great system but the lower ones i know nothing about and they could be good or bad...not much help haha sorry
I edit with media composer and its format is a lot like that of adobe and final cut but with some difference. Really good product but requires a lot of plugins to get effects that might be standard on other platforms. And yeah, if you learn to use media composer well you'll never need to look for a job in the editing world (movies and tv that is)
