1d mk2 + t2i, or a 60d

What should I do. Used mk2 for 700, 30k clicks, two batteries (possibly 4). Then save a bit more and get a t2i as my video cam, or do I go all in one with the 60d. I'd love to have a "pro" photo camera with 8.2 fps, then have a second reserve body for video and have dual cam, but i'm worried the 1d might be too dated?

Or do I just go with my original route and get a 60d.

Don't say 7d, because if I was to drop 1400 on the body (what I would spend on both buying another t2i and a 1d) I'd want to have two bodies in case one shit the bed

Well the 1D is certainly an older camera. Also, I was under the impression that you do mostly video. If that's the case, and you're looking for an upgrade, then it seems silly to end up shooting video on the same body again.

That being said, I don't really consider the 60d that much of an upgrade.

I know you said don't say it. But having 2 bodies is the only reason you don't want the 7d? Thats silly

The 7d blows both the 1Dii, t2i, and 60D out of the water in all aspects related to photo and video. Add in the magnesium chassis and weather sealing, and there is literally no reason not to get it.

60D - Plastic body, no weather sealing
t2i - Good Video, OK for stills but the burst is slow and the AF system sucks.
1Dii - Great stills, but cant shoot video. Yea, you have a 1.3x sensor @ 8mp, so your high ISOs will shoot better comparatively, but to be honest, the high ISO's on the 7D are pretty damn clean. Also, unless its a 1Dm2N, it's not weather sealed. So make sure to not get dripped on if it's wet.

Although I'd always have my body covered if there was a chance of it getting wet regardless of weather sealing, i think its a gimmick more than anything

Man jamie, you are indecisive. I wouldn't get a t2i AGAIN, get the 7D or the 60D, which ever one is cheaper i suppose. No point getting a 1dmkii if you can shoot with a BETTER photo camera in the 7D.

Yea, that will be fine.

And the weather sealing is definitely not a gimmick. Last winter, I dropped the camera in a snow bank and pulled it back out and continued to shoot with it all day. I have been rained on and had trees drip on me. Lets not even go into beer that has gotten on the camera at parties and weddings. I wouldn't drop the camera in a puddle, but it's nice to know a few errent drops of water aren't going to render the camera useless.

yea I am. The 60d will be about $75-100 cheaper, but I think I might get the 7d so I fit in with the rest of the crowd. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!

I'd have to sell some of my SD cards for some CF cards if I went 7d.
But 7d has 8fps vs 5.3.
The 60d is new, the 7d is used.
the 7d is sealed, the 60d is not.
the 7d has dual processors.
the 7d is $100 more expensive.

7D Jamie. There is a reason why not everyone is dumping their 7D's to pick up the 60D, reason being the 7D is a more "Pro" level camera.

to be honest I think the 60D blows, the D7000 is better in almost every way
if the D7000 had 60p then theres no reason for new DSLR buyers not to get it besides menus/feel preference

only thing about the 7d is buying new cards (which I just invested in new SD cards) and that I still havent heard back from the guy about it yet, and I legit have 1150 to work with for shipping, and he wants 1175+shipping/paypal (which will be about $30 alone) :(


I however would not be upset with a 60d

something to keep in mind, unless you are a multimillionaire you just cant keep up with technology. at a certain point you need to buy something and stick with it. and if you ask me, the 7d is going to last you the longest before you really need to upgrade. though i still think the 5d would be your best bet, and just save the scrilla till you can afford it.

I just picked up a job as a photog assistant, super stoked to get paid to help out doing shit I like and get professional experience.

Also doing some studio modeling photography for a friend/ working on pics for contests (including lange girl!)

And some kids contacted me and wanted me to make a longboarding edit with them in the near future.

borrow a camera from a friend, and wait until you can afford a 7d?

or buy the 1d mk2, and wait a couple months until the start of ski season to buy a video body if you are set on having a 1d.

i think think this is your best bet. aside from the 5d. while the t2i and 7d are great cams, if you are starting to really use them as a business, having the features of the 1d are killer. plus, as you know, full frame=om nom nom nom

Did you forget your "/claim" Jamie? I think you did...You make me feel silly for just being sponsored for filming...we'll see how that goes though.

Anyways, just follow your heart and you can never go wrong. Remember that regardless of jobs, you're dropping 1000+ bucks on a piece of metal/plastic/glass/technoshit. Make sure you get what you want out of it. I think people get caught up in recommending things based on specs, etc, but you already know most of those things - I don't even know why you made this thread (maybe to put your thoughts into words, I don't know).

Anyways, back to the subjective: have you ever held a Nikon in your hands? Did you like it? How was it compared to your t2i? I don't know about you but I work hard for my money and wouldn't spend it carelessly because of upcoming deadlines. Make sure you know what you're getting and that you get what you want.

Just found a 1d for $525 with a couple of lenses locally. Going to get that and a 70-200, then sell my 11-16, 50 1.4, and 28 2.8 for a 24 2.8 and a 60d or t2i

i love my 7d. i also have a t2i, but will probably sell it. It's a good backup cam, but I really have no use for it as a still photo cam and I find it too light to shoot handheld...usually on a pod or glidecam.

The 60d really does not interest me at all, and I don't see how people really compare it to a 7d.

I would recommend just getting one 7d and calling it good, then slowly acquire some glass over time. The weather sealing is definitely no gimmick. I've used mine in the pouring rain and it worked flawlessly. Remember it's only fully weathersealed if youre using a weathersealed lense with a filter/polarizer, etc. attached.

I think you are way too focused on having nice gear and not using your current/previous equipment to it's full potential. Upgrading is not bad but you just had a T2i which is a great camera if you know how to use it correctly.

truth, I'm definitely a gear whore :\

I did feel limited when I had my t2i (small WB choices and single stop isos were getting very frustrating to dial in correctly) and the noise was annoying up around 800-1600. Plus I've jumped more into photography now and want a better photo camera, and it just came at this time.
