i have to pick what colleges im applying to, and i want a college with a good park skiing and a good school. what are some good schools for that besides university of utah. thanks
Except it is insanely expensive... Your parents better have a pretty penny in their pocket if they are going to pay for that shit. There are some public schools in slc that would probably be cheaper,.
Don't go to a shitty community college somewhere near mountains. Just go ski for a year or 2 and work in a cafeteria...then go to a real school. It's like paying them to get an education that no employer 30 minutes away recognizes.
If you really want to ski....go ski and wait on college.
... um no they're 40 ish minutes from stow and smuggs, 1 hourish from killington 1 hourish from Jay. It's 20 mins from Bolton Valley which has night skiing and a sick park and a ton of snowboarders and you can do whatever you want and it's part of the triple major and it's never crowded, and the employees and tourists aren't as big assholes as Stowe... and St. Mikes has a $30 ish dollar season's pass to smuggs if you care...
Just wondering why you arent considering UofUtah? AMAZING skiing, cool people, super cheap, and some amazing programs. My program there has the number 2 amount of research money put into it in the country behind MIT, and is pretty close to the top of the list overall. Oh and THEY are paying ME to go to school there :) just something to consider
This. Claremont McKenna College. That's prob the hardest one to get into. There's also Pomona and Pitzer on the same campus. It's 30 minutes to Mt. Baldy and 1.5-2 Hours to Mt. High and Big Bear. You can also stay weekends at Mammoth
bridger is only 20 minutes away from campus but has a crap park. moonlight basin and big sky are only an hour away and have pretty good parks. and there are never any lines.
im in the exact same position as you dude. i am most likely going to msu bozeman. the only downside is that there really isnt great park skiing nearby but that isnt too important to me since i am coming from the midwest. MSU has a decent engineering course too.
the Uofutah is my number 1 place im thinking of going, but my parents want me to apply to other places so i have a choice i guess. but the u is so sick i live in utah now
not so more like an hour, University of utah for sure, downtown salt lake youve got park city, the canyons, snowbird, alta, brighton, need i say more??? cheaper then west minister to and you can gain in state residency within a year. UofU is the way to go
western state college of colorado. 30 min from crested butte (gnarly) ive been getting 70-80 days a season with full class schedule. you cant beat it. near telluride and wolf creek, monarch, and silverton. which each get some of the most snow in the state. if you work hard to you can get a really good education. the location attracts great teachers who are also in the vallley to do the same thing you are, ski. imo it cant be beat. CU sucks btw
Okay, maybe an hour, fair enough. However, its a flat road, and you can ski 10 months a year, without having to head somewhere else, in the end interrupting your school.
-Montana State - Bridger Bowl 15 mins out. Bigsky/Moonlight are an hour out.
-Montana: Montana Snowbowl is half hour away + 3 or 4 more within an hour. A bunch more within 4 hrs
-ColoradoU: a bunch within 3 hours.
-UUtah: a shitload within half an hour. Lots of choices.
-Nevada-Reno: 5 or 6 areas within 45 mins. a bunch more within an hour half. Mammoth is 3 hrs away.
-Western Washington: Baker and Stevens pass are within 2-3 hrs.
-Portland, Or schools: Hood resorts are 2-3 hrs away depending on snow.
-Oregon/Oregon St: 2-2.5 hrs from Batchlor. 3-4 hrs or so from Hood.
-Southern Oregon U: 30 mins from Mt Ashland. 1 hr from Shasta. 3.5 from Batchlor. 5hr from Tahoe/Hood
-LA schools. Within an hour of 5 resorts. 6 from mammoth.
-Eastern Washington/Spokane schools: 4 or 5 within 1.5hr
-Seattle schools: hour from snowqualmie. little further to stevens pass. bout the same to crystal mtn.
-Chico St/Sacramento St/UCDavis - 2 hrs from Tahoe resorts. 4.5-5 from Mammoth.
-Boise St: 35-45 to Bogus Basin. few more incl. Sun Valley within 2-3 hrs.
He was thinking of Colorado Mountain College, but yeah Claremont is a great school. I'm not sure if this is true, but I was told their graduates have the highest average income of any college in the US.
UW c45 minutes from snoqualmie with a pretty good park hour an a half from stevens with a sick park 2 hrs from crystal with sick backcountry and big mountain. and like 4 hrs from whistler, easiest access to bc from an american school.
