engadget is reporting that Gopro is setting up to launch a new "HD hero 960" this fall for $180. no specs available at this time, but due to the name they are guessing it will have a max resolution of 980p instead of the 1080p of the current HD hero(but who films with it on 1080p anyway?)
Yeah, I just read the thread in M&A, but it's 960p (not 980p), which is pretty good. Personally I do use the 1080p setting most of the time on my HD, but having a second GoPro to use mostly on 720p could be nice for POV shots (I use the pole attachment most of the time with mine, so 1080p works just fine, but when I have it as a helmet can I have it on 720p to get more a vertical perspective).
I'm pretty sure 720p(1280x720) and 1080p(1920x1080) will give you the same vertical perspective (both 16:9). But 960p (1280x960) will give you more vertical view.
The 720p does give you a slightly more vertical view without changing the aspect ration (I know this because when I have it pole mounted in 720p I can see the tip of the pole cause about 2 inches hangs in front of the camera on my rig, but in the 1080p you can't). None the less, it's a sick camera to have as a backup or second gopro, which is always good to have on hand, but I think my HD Hero (1080p) will be my go to gopro.
