In honor of the first thread of this cult, I think we shall discuss about the best premieres that happened in the world.

Personally, I think that the first time astronauts reached the space is an amazing premiere. Really opened us to a new side of the life, a mysterious and interesting one.

What do you think?

Space exploration is something that has always fascinated and baffled me. The infinite expanse that is the universe holds mysteries and power unable to be understood by human thought. The shots taken by deep space satellites are simply amazing!

Whenever I think about space, I have a headache the next day.

But really, astronomy has always fascinated me. We are such small parts of a much bigger puzzle, and no one can possibly comprehend how big it is.

You guys probably heard that story before, but still. People pointed the Hubble telescope on a small black patch of the space to see if there was anything interesting. The opened the lense to catch the light, during 10 days if my memory is correct. That's the picture they got (not sure if it's the exact one but it looks like this) Billions and billions of galaxies. That's impressive, it's a small patch of the universe and there's an infinite number of galxies. Makes me wonder how big the universe is.

Exactly! Humans are animals that naturally feel a need to conquer and understand. We are very good at it! However, there remain a few things we can not possibly comprehend at this day and age, and the vastness of space is definitely one of them!

Yes absolutely. Any one here has any thoughts or legit info about Extraterrestrials? It's also a subject that fascinates me a lot.

My opinion about it: Even though i'm not really aware of the new developments on this subject, I'm pretty sure there's life somewhere else in the space. I red an article lately, there's a lot of others planets in the universe that looks a lot like our planet Earth. Which gives me a certain hope about it. Also, at Discovery Channel, there's was a documentary about life in outerspace. They showed many possibilities of other species that could easily live on other planets. There could be some species that could live in liquid nytrogen(or something like that) since it's a liquid that's really apparent to water. Also, sorts of jellyfish/flying squids could live in the sky of Venus, feeding itself with the energy of the thunderstroms there. I mean, there was so many examples in thaht show, every of them was perfectly plausible.

The comment about living in liquid nitrogen is entirely possible. One of the theories of human evolution is that we are evolved from a single cell bacteria that can be produced in heated chemical based substances. The particular example I saw was the hot springs in Iceland, where geothermal water with chemicals boils up and can foster the growth and development if certain types of bacteria, which is thought to be the earliest ancestor to the homo erects and later the homo sapien genus.

Definitely, life started out due to heat and combinations of different chemicals stimulating the growth of single celled bacteria, which allowed an explosion of development to occur, life on other planets, even in the most basic sense, is entirely plausible

Origin of life: if you're a chemist or have experience reading specialized scientific articles, there's this one scientist Jack Szostak (Nobel laureate in Medicine) who studies possible ways that life could have evolved.

And speaking of space: apparently there will be an opportunity to view the Northern lights at latitudes in the northern U.S. (so more southerly latitudes than Alaska).

That would be absolutely amazing. It has definitely always been one of my dreams to see the northern lights. Sounds like a great road trip to me!

I think seeing the northern lights while on an airplane would be the coolest thing ever. Also on the original topic of space, try and wrap your mind around this

Yeah, seen them a few times from an airplane, generally those TATL flights that get past 60 N, S.F. - London, etc.

The light pollution here might preclude seeing the Northern lights this time around.

This may sound bloody dense but I feel the major premiere to civilization in our century (21st) is apple... They have rebuild how we use computers and this in turn will change the way we communicate and do business! Through the computers we have been able to create such a wide tie of connections that we would never would have had...

Yes I agree, computers now are getting better and better. A 1000$ dollar machine seems to be able to do anything in the world and opens you to a whole new world with internet. Wether you're an architect or a movie editor, everyones works with the same thing. It's so versatile, it's crazy.

That's amazing! So beautiful! Yes, in my opinion, there's no experience that would be better or sicker than going into space. Leaving the planet and be alone in the space. Surronded by magnificents stars, planets etc. That would be so intense!

watched the meteor shower on thursday night for about 30 - 45 minutes. over that amount of time, i saw easily 10+ shooting stars. the whole thing was incredibly peaceful, especially because i was on my camp on skaneatlas lake in NY; one of the cleanest lakes in the world:
