Beer Advocate - Respect Beer - NS Style

I think we should get one going in here. Granted a specific beer is not searchable, it'd still be nice to get some NS opinion on the beers they love the most, since skiers/snow lovers have the best palate when it comes to good brews.

So, your basic form, doesn't really have to be all specific/'professional' like over on the site.

First, list the beer, and where it's from. (important!)
Then give what you rate the beer...we'll use a 1-5 system here.
Then tell us how it looks, light, amber, the head, etc...
You can tell us what it smells like, but I personally don't really give a shit what it smells like.
Then how it tastes, any highlights of a flavor profile are great.
Then it's mouthfeel. Is it full bodied, is it watery, highly carbonated, etc.
Then it's drinkability. Is it great on it's own, or does it need some food to accompany it.

Lets get some to try something they normally wouldn't, or have never even heard of. And if it's not available, maybe we can start shipping some here and there (a bottle or two). There are definitely legalities when it comes to shipping beer, but you can get away with it. I've done it twice, sending beer up to northern NY, and once out to Portland (both 6ers).

Alright, im gonna go ahead and start this one off, but i'll be honest im not a pro beer taster or anything like that so just bear with me, this review is gonna be pretty simple.

La Fin du Monde (Québec)
I would rate it a 4 (assuming 5 = greatest fucking beer in the whole entire world)
Appearance: It has a honey/gold/orange color, and its even kinda foggy or hazy.
Smell: I dunno, smells like beer i guess ahaha
Taste: It's strong (9% alcohol) but the alcohol is not overpowering or anything like that, kinda has a spicy taste.
Mouthfeel: Decent carbonation, lots of bubbles
Drinkability: Fuckin terrific beer, perfect for just chillin on a lazy summer afternoon, definitely good on its own, but also great with hot dogs and stuff like that.

Flying Dog 'Old Scratch'; Maryland

I rate this beer a 4
It pours super nice, it's got a great amber color to it, and the head lasts (which I love, hate a head that goes away too quick)
It smells like beer =)
A sweet malty flavor, toasty with some citrus to it.
On the mouth it's so crisp, it's really a great summer lounger as its got a good soft carbonation to it too.
Its a great beer to drink on it's own, it definitely doesn't need food to go with it (whereas I think La Fin Du Monde does, opinion of course)

Lagunitas IPA from California
I'd give it a 4, as it is my favorite semi-widely available beer I have had.
Its a light gold in color, with a decent amount of yeast and particulate in the bottle (I like this)
It has a medium head, well balanced and fairly long lasting.
Mouthfeel: Its an IPA, so its a hoppy beer, and has nicely balanced carbonation. More than some, but not overpowering at all.
It smells like mango. Seriously. Its subtle, but its there.
Tastes like an IPA, my favorite example of my favorite style. Has a nuanced fruity body that blooms in the after taste.

oh, drinkability. Great. It goes well with food, but can be enjoyed by itself. Great on tap and in bottles. Easy to knock more back than you might intend, its that good. Pitchers disappear quickly with this guy...

I picked one of these up because I heard great things about them. It tastes like baked beans. That is the only way to describe it.I'm not saying it was bad, but it had a very odd taste to it. Maybe it was just because i'm not used to high alcohol content beers.

Ommegang Brewery Hennepin

Had it last night at dinner with my mother :)

Overall I approved highly. It's an ale or saison and when poured was much lighter in color than the flavor led me to believe. ABV 7.7 I believe and it really let ya know it. Pretty thick mouthfeel and deep flavor, kinda hoppy but also a very spice filled deep flavor that was very good. I don't really like hoppy pale ales but this one was very enjoyable. Light in color and lots o head when poured.

I'd totally buy a case of this beer, and get quite smashed off it I'm sure as it went down very smooth.

Coming out of Cooperstown NY I believe.

Had it with porkchops amongst saurkraut and apples, mashed taters mixed with cheese and bits of kale, and some nice steamed carrots and cauliflower. Thought it went really well with the meal. Thanks mom.
