Dyeing custom skis?

So I started making skis in my tech class a few months ago, and they're about a day away from being pressed.  being a procrastinator like myself, I put off designing my topsheet until the last minute.  At this very moment, I have the topsheet submerged in royal blue RIT dye.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience and can tell me if this has any chance of working.  if not feel free to make bets on my success/failure.

not sure thats gonna work. What are you using for a topsheet? The best way is put the graphic under a clear topsheet or sublimate it onto the topsheet.

unfortunately, white was the only color topsheet in stock, and I'm a couple hours in and the dye hasn't bonded at all with the topsheet, so I guess it doesn't work... still open to suggestions

even if it doesn't work, plain white skis would be pretty boss, and if you really want some color throw a few stickers on

I really have no idea if that would work... hopefully it won't affect the bonding properties of the topsheet. You could always screen print it after its pressed, it probably wouldn't hold up that well but it might be better than nothing if your dye doesn't work.

I would put some epoxy on a small piece of topsheet and see if it dries completely opaque.  If it does, I don't know what to tell you.  If it ends up being translucent after curing, put some cotton fabric under the topsheet and it will show through somewhat.

RIT is fabric dye so it doesn't bond with a lot of things but you could try making a stencil and using dupli color.  it's auto paint so it bonds with smooth surfaces well.
