Surgery opinoins

I have a plate on my collar bone and I am wondering since this is a ski community after all, who else has this on their collarbone or any other limb for that matter? It was to correct my over lapping bones after my collar bone broke and didn't heal right. It has been over a year and the area is still sensitive to touch and I often get dull pain in that area. The doctor says I don't need it anymore but taking it out might not do anything. He also said before the operation it wouldn't bug me after. So has anyone else had their titanium plates taken off? Why/why not?

dude taking plates out is going to be very painful in the aftermath. The area will be very sore. Heres what you do, go to the surgery really fucking drunk and steal morphine from the surgery room. You will be fine if you do exactly what I say.

Get it taken out.  My friend had a plate above her eye because she fractured her skull playing soccer, and she always complained about pain and sensitivity.  The doctor said that it wasn't doing anything anymore, so she got it taken out, and has been a lot happier.  She said it was sore for a while (obviously) but overall a huge improvement.

i was in a similar situation, metal plate in collarbone with 8 screws to align the broken bones. It stayd in for 1 year - i was advised by the surgeon to have it taken out because im young and active.

While it was in, i coudnt fall asleep on that side cos it would start hurting, now that its out, its back to 100%. recovery time was also short after surgury, like 2/3 weeks max, so yea, have it taken out I would say for sure.

i have a plate in my leg that hurts all the time. i should be getting it out in a few weeks. healing time is only about a week from what the doctor told me.

n i hear it will affect range of movemnt wen ur oldr if u dont get it taken out. so prolly

i too have a plate and 6 screws in my clavicle, and am debating getting it out. I just dont want to deal with the surgical pain from the skin being cut open again, and i figure it adds extra strength so why not leave it in? it doesnt really bother me, other than when it's cold out.

I shattered my entire lower leg and knee on a channel gap set up, just under 3 months ago. I was in the hospital for 7 weeks and had 11 surgeries. I got a whole hardware shop in my leg. I'm still pretty busted, and just started to put my foot back on the ground. I was told in the future I could maybe take some out but I don't plan on it if its not necessary. Another surgery just isnt too desirable to me after everything I have been through.

yeah I dont want another surgery.... I am pretty pissed off that my doctor told me that it would not hurt afterwords and that temperature wouldn't effect it. That is complete bullshit because I can tell when I cold front is coming no joke by my collarbone. I told him that and he said im pretty much full of shit. Anyone else feel the temperature through their plate?


oh yeah matt, that fucking sucks dude++++ vibes for recovery

they do if the bone segments are overlapped enough. mine would have healed but i would have had one short shoulder

when I broke it the bones over lapped eachother and healed fucked up. I went to the doctor and he noticed that my broken shoulder was a couple inches shorter than my other.... definitely needed to be corrected. Im sick of being scared to itch my shoulder cause its so sensitve

Definitely get it taken out. Have you put on pads yet? Because if scratching your shoulder sucks, wait until you hit someone with that shoulder and feel maybe 250 pounds of force pushing and rubbing the inside of your skin against that plate. Shouldn't bother you for too long if you're not a pussy.
