Hitchhikers

I pick hitchhikers from time to time, I feel I need to cause I have hitchhiked to get to the hill and some nice people pick you up. Now i have picked up some weird people, I picked up a woman who had slept under a tree on the bottom of a pass in march, but the most weird hitchhiker was picked up when i was 5ish by my mom driving in the mountains, he sat in the bed of the truck and i shit you not had green teeth, like green green teeth. and the strangest dude that picked me up said he was a priest and god told him to write a new bible, he also asked if we knew Reese Witherspoon, cause god told him to ask people. Shit you not scariest hour of my life.

Have any other NSers picked up hitchhikers or have hitchhiked?

one time this old rancher picked me and my friend up, he had a single cab bench seat with three dogs, he talked about how much he loved his dogs, so between my friend and i and the driver and three dogs in the cab, the dogs started flipping shit and fighting, on my lap, totally worth getting off the mountain for the night though

when i was younger my brother and i were watching a movie in the car 'silence of the lambs' and my dad picked up a hitch hiker. the guy was probably more scared of us then we were of him.

i pick up hitchikers whenever i see them.



but if theres ever a zombie outbreak, fuck that shit. they kight have been bitten by a zombie, but havent succumbed yet, and dont wanna admit they were bitten. motherfuckers could go crazy in your car and scratch the upholstery all up and shit.

I've hitchhiked up mountains plenty of times and its never been a problem. I don't drive though so I can't say I've returned the favour yet.

I"ve hung out with some hitchhiker types. most are just weird vietnam vets who just want a ride to the day center or soup kitchen. I used to have them buy me beer on the way...  they always had haggard stories about whor houses and wild adventures they had while shooting heroin and shit... good down home people.

BEST STORY EVAR!
I picked up a woman once who looked totally normal hitching down a farm road in a small town Ontario at about 11pm one night, I thought her car must have broken down. When she got in the car, she whipped out a Hypo needle - told me she was HIV positive, and asked me to drive her to Hamilton, about 1.5 hrs away. I did. She got out. That was the end of my hitchhiking pickups for ever.

My dad and i gave a ride to 3 guys from south africa who were working at Stratton, we gave them a ride to there hostel in bennington. The guys were super chill

Haha I've been picked up by a couple drunk drivers in Mammoth, always a little nerve racking but no harm ever came of it luckily.  In small towns and especially ski towns it's the shyiit

i broke my derailer hanger mountian biking once and hitched a ride in the bed of some guys pick up truck back to my cabin.  i think i would only ever pick up a skier or mountain biker

This year i hitched hiked in march up the hill to white water and got picked up by these two really chill people. but there was a chick driver. the guy might actually be on newschoolers i forgot to ask.

I've hitchhiked one time before, a really bad experiences, so it's gonna take a while before i will do that again!
Me and friend was hitching to a town 5 miles away and we got picked up by two 20-25 year old guys.
They had a really nice Audi A5, so we thought it was cool.
But then they began to race, they said they wanted to break their speed record.
So 130 m/h on a road with a 50 limit.

picked up a guy walking to the canyons. he was only like a mile away from it. but i still gave him a ride.

how harmful could he be with some blunt objects like skis and poles?

I would do it in places known for being relaxed (NZ, West coast, AK, Hawaii, most of Canada, etc.). And super foreign countries, just for fun. I guess hitchhiking planes in the bush is pretty easy, as is hitching boats just about anywhere.
But seriously if you have the time to wait and someone more experienced, seems like hopping freight is a TON easier.

I missed a bus today and had to hitchhike from Fort Collins to Boulder. Got picked up by a very nice man who was only going to Longmont but decided to take me all the way to my destination. Only waited like 5 minutes.

I wish more people would hitch, we could make it safer again. No point in two people driving if they are going to the same place at the same time.

this weekend had to hitchhike again, my car broke down 350 miles from my home i had my skis to get them mounted, i hitchhiked all night and got home, had to go through a indian reservation, and to top it off my phone was dead, crazy journey, hitching is legit

Fuck that is ridiculous. My buddy told me when he started his medic training in the army, the guy training them was holding a couple needles that had just been used on some of the trainees. He was saying "alright guys, now you want to be extremely careful with dirty needles, because if you accidentally prick yourself, its about 6 months of mandatory blood work". Then he accidentally stabbed himself with one of the needles. He said "FUCK....wow, just like that. And now I have to go to the fucking hospital right after this training session."

Actually hitching in California sucks a lot because no one will pick you up and pigs will harass you. Places like CT,Vermont, that whole deal in the NE are supposedly the easiest. They say in Alaska its illegal not to pick up a hitchhiker when its snowing.

so i got into that cookie jar once again, picked up another hitch hiker, drove with him for 3 hours. found out he had been in prison his whole life and just got out, would i do it again....mmm probably

For almost a decade, hitch hiking was my main form of transportation. First time I hitched, it was getting the fuck out of town 'cause the cops were after me... ah high school.

I've gotten picked up by a few sketch people here and there (drunks, perverts, sketch drug dealers running away from the city 'cause the heat was on, etc...) I imagine if I was more into winging it, those weird rides could have turned into those stories you keep telling for years... but I like following through my my plan too much I guess.

Best story for picking up a hitch hiker: Early July, five of us hoped into my friends '78 Ford Econoline Van, pimped with a blue padded walls, white shag carpet roof, futon, tv/vcr, N64, dvd player. Leave Toronto on a road trip to Whistler for two weeks of skiing on the glacier. A few hours outside of Thunder Bay on day two of the trip we pick up this hitch hiker. His car broke down while on his way to Vancouver and had stuck his thumb out not an hour earlier. We offer him a ride the whole way, he was stoked. In Thunder Bay we make a wrong turn and end up getting into a little trouble at the boarder. By the time we were in Vancouver we convinced the hitch hiker to come up to Whistler with us: he ended up saying with us for a week or so at our place in Whistler before disappearing one morning before we all woke up. He left beer money on the table, we were stoked. His name was Paul, and he was cool about getting searched at the boarder. Good man, that Paul.

I hitch to go skiing all da times. I met and old man whose name was Cloyd. He had sweet stories. Another older dude picked me up on da wayz down and it turns out he lived right down the street from me HA

best place to hitchhike in is definitely new zealand. only the chillest people pick you up and it's pretty well culturally accepted because of all the backpackers and other travelers
